I don't think murder is reported much more now than 1960 TBH, I would argue worldwide that it would have increased but that could be down to availability of weapons and drugs.
Sorry I have got no more but cant see it being that far off.
I was talking about before we had a proper newspaper industry or police force.
This story may or may not be true but it makes the point about what can happen without proper law enforcement.

So this is not a direct port over from the US, Our take on it is every day (luxury) items not other privileges.
(not trying to trick you, just that I do not know and your previous comment led me believe we did the same as the US)
As I understand it, the basic system is very similar between most US states and the UK; the difference is that the US has more manditory sentencing, much longer sentencing, and also that they have much more restricted priviledges. Some US prisoners will spend their entire 50 year sentence in solitary confinement. There are also bootcamps, where some prisoners are given military style discipline in exchange for shorter sentences, and chain gangs etc.
Really, there has been comparatively little research to show this reduces crime on aggregate. What I was suggesting wasn't that giving priviledges actually results in lower reoffending outside of prison. It was merely that it makes prisoners easier to handle within prison.I see no lefty has responded to this yet....
If you find out you are wrong, you can let someone on a life sentence out of prison. If you kill someone, it is much harder to unkill them. That was the reason we abolished the death sentence: it turned out, we were quite regularly killing the wrong person.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

fool.
Do I get an apology soon, seeing as you said I made it up to fit my belief system. Remember, I never have to make stuff up about lefties. They really ARE THAT STUPID!!!
Now who is a fool?
From the Income Support regulations reg 21(3), JSA regulations (reg 85(4)), ESA regulations (reg 69(2)). housing benefit regulations (reg7(14)), & council tax benefit regulations (reg 8(5))
you count as a prisoner if you are- detained in custody awaiting trial or sentence or following imprisonment
- on temporary release under specific provisions
If you are classed as a prisoner you cannot claim attendance allowance, bereavement benefits, disability living allowance, carers allowance, employment support allowance, incapacity benefit, maternity allowance, reduced earnings allowance, retirement allowance, retirement pension or severe disablement allowance, or maternity/paternity pay (section 113(1)(b) social security contributory benefits act 1992, & regulation 2 Social Security (great britain) regulations.
There you are. The legislation applicable to the UK, with sources. Go & reference it.
Who really is a fool? The one who believes a tabloid paper stating prisoners get £2.50 a week & this is the welfare benefits system? Or the person quoting relevant legislation expressly prohibiting what you say?
I will await your apology, as clearly I have proved you wrong...It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
Yet losing freedom is not incentive enough to stop crimes...
The death penalty is not enough incentive to stop crimes.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. to be fair, it doesn't stop the first crime, but criminals exposed to it certainly have a low recidivism rate.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

i am waiting for you to balance the pros with cons....
I think I've balanced it with post no 161 on this thread. It has been repeated by tomterm amongst others. You have ducked answering the question.
Would you be happy having your daughter/mother/sister/brother/father etc killed by the state for a crime they did not commit?
Or perhaps not so much "happy" but do you think it is a price worth paying for the benefit of society?
Is it a price YOU would be willing to pay? Not "someone else"..... would YOU be happy for your daughter to pay that price??
If you cannot answer "yes" to that question how do you propose to introduce a death penalty with a 0.00% failure rate?? For that is what is needed.
(Incidentally, I have no such qualms about being "at their level" or the like I simply could not abide this happening to one innocent person.)0
