If you click on PN's name on any of her posts the drop down lets you visit her homepage. From there I got to this info on hubs!
I really must fix that d4mned font. It went tiny when I did something yesterday - and it's on my To Do List. Just checked it in another browser and it's the right size.... oh dear, wonder what button I leant on then in FF.
Also ... I wish I could get more words to show on the short versions on the home page...
And if anybody's wondering what I discovered earlier today, that's where I blogged it0 -
As a rule I don't pay for anything ... except domain names and hosting. I occasionally buy "stuff I think will be useful", but that's rare since I decided to stop chasing around with IM and the possibility of creating funnel pages, to create a big list and flog them a product (cr4ppy ebook). I could never be seriously interested in that.... and as I was researching and reading, I just kept finding interesting stuff - and so I played around with the interesting stuff. And I blog about stuff I've been interested in, that's interesting, that's useful.
There is a lot of cr4p out there though on t'Internet. I do try to stick to stuff that works. No one thing will work for everybody... you just have to find the stuff that works for you - and you need to be interested in it or it'll seem a chore. I just love random scribbling here and there. But keeping on top of everything's hard, so much changes all the time and with the sites I often end up spending half a day upgrading stuff, then off on a tangent to find things I think I need.
I am currently operating with: 30+ domains, 3 hosts, 2 different CMSs, 1 adserver, 700 logins/passwords, a 1000 line spreadsheet that lists my adzones across my sites, a password keeper that documents every site I visit/log into and what I wasw doing there and why I logged in, along with a To Do list if I've not got time right then to do something I thought of..... and I come here to chill out.0 -
Slow learner here.
So you write blurb in hubs and people somehow find it, read it, click Ads on the same page, buy stuff, you get a commission. Right?
So do the hubs come to the top of google searches?
Why do people buy off ads from random websites and not use quidco etc?I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Anyone know a nice place for lunch near the M4 motorway sort of Swindon area?

Yes, mine do
Because they do.
Hubs is about the 4th biggest website/company in the US, quidco's not there. Many people don't know about quidco - and quidco's not the only company that does that.
It's like everything... why have more than one supermarket anywhere? Because people do what they do, like what they like.
Many people are happy just finding something they want - they won't go hunting for quicker/cheaper/other ways to do something.
Many of the things available in the world aren't on quidco and the like.
I don't use quidco either. I never go there.
Also, it's not just about people buying stuff, but finding out about stuff. I make a lot of money giving away free things, telling people about free things. It's all advertising.0 -

With hubs it is less of a problem than a blog, because you are already on a high powered domain, but the short answer is through SEO and links.
The longer answer, I leave to pasturesnew...
What she is doing is basically the same way that MSE makes money... he gets paid per click on the adverts on that side of the screen >>>“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

It is really annoying me that I cannot remember the name of an old coaching inn type pub, we used for lunch when driving East on the M4.
If we have to go anywhere, we try to find a good value stop just off the Motorway; in the old days that meant "good food guide" "CAMRA" etc and an hour or so in the local library - but now we have the Interweb.
I've just put chiseldon "pub food" into Google and got back half a dozen suggestions near Swindon.
I don't know the structure of your family but if there are kids this might be a suggestion.

Thanks for that. The ones with kids aren't coming, so we don't need to cater for their needs.
I found the Alexandra from the net, but think it looks too businessy for a mid week lunch.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I can recommend one near Newbury, if that would help. It's in a village called East Ilsley (sp?) and I think it's called the Crown and Horns. It used to do fantastic food several years ago, but I'm afraid I haven't been there for ages and have no idea if it's still as good.
Today I went for supper with the family next door to house 1. I mentioned seeing that it had gone on the market. They tell me that the wife has found a house near the grandchildren and wants to move. The husband does not want to move, so he has put their house on the market but priced it not to sell (£10k over what I'm paying for mine with significantly less indoor space, although a larger garden), and is intending not to accept any offers at all under the asking price. Meanwhile, he is hoping for a bad survey on the thatched cottage his wife wants to buy. I am more than ever convinced that I'm glad I'm buying house 2 and am better off not trying to buy from people who aren't really in agreement about selling.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0
