This is the bit we are all getting interested in :)

You bandy around words like adsense, and I have a rough idea what it means, but how do you implement it? Also, there was some mention of some site like hogpages, which I had a look at. There are a couple of things I'd quite like to blog about, but doing that and being paid to do it sounds much more compelling. :T
You see, you write 3 lines and my answer could fill volumes!!

Adsense - you need a website or a good handful of hubs, then you apply to Google for adsense and they approve you (or not) and once approved you then place code on your website or blog and if people click on your ads you get a few pennies. This does not work for Wordpress.com free blogs as they don't allow advertising, but there are many free places you can get free websites and do what you like on them.

My advice to anybody is: do the hogs :) If you can't hack it and be enthusiastic enough to write 12 of the things then there's no way you'd survive all the time/effort of blogging and driving traffic to a virgin site that nobody's heard of.

Traffic wise, I've spent years/money building websites - and collectively they get as much traffic as my hubs... but I didn't put much effort into the traffic driving at hubs.

Blogging - you have to really stick with one subject; hubs you can literally write one every day of the year about all kinds of random stuff because they're all separate pages.

I think the main thing to remember is that this is no get quick rich scheme. It may be a get rich slowly scheme, but you need to be willing to work every day for years in order to do that. What Pastures New is doing is heavily dependant on residual income, and so the first month you may make nothing... but, the post you write today may still be making you small amounts of money in three years time.

Good point. I like the idea though of my output being around for a while, instead of drifting off the bottom of an MSE page.

Anyway, another thanks to Pastures in case she missed it. I finally started to understand what it was about thanks to her, and have had a lot of fun recently.

btw PN. Did my first hubpage tonight, just a test to see if it saved it and if they accepted me. Thanks.

What got me turned onto hubs is that once, about 3 years ago, I randomly scratched out a quick thing that was utter b0ll0x, in about 20 minutes. Before I even understood hubs. It was quite cr4ppy back then, but this writing existed .... and suddenly I started seeing pennies arriving from it ... and one day I had a quick add up of that one article and thought: "BL00DY HELL!!" it'd made me over £50, silently, 10p here, £1 there, 4p, 12p, 56p, £1.10... etc plip, plop, plip, plop .... over time. So I thought "I'd better write some more" - and did another 30.... and I found I was generating about £60-70/month.... and I thought "I'd better write some more", so wrote another 60 in September :) ... and this month I'm now up to £125. And I've not promoted them. And I didn't do proper keyword research. I just 'wrote from the heart' so to speak. So, yes, I'd better write some more, but not yet as I had to let another bunch of stuff drop in order to do the whole September thing.

    Residuals .... worth chasing.

Oh ... and that original, 20 minute, piece of old guff??? £160+ now, and still plip, plopping in daily.

OK, here's another one.... one morning I thought "what can I write about??", so I went to Google Trends... and I spotted something that was trending. I had no idea what it was, so I googled it ... and found out - then hubbed it. All done in under an hour. £65 to date that's made.

And I'm number one at Google for it at a 3 keyword level.

Did the same again one morning at the end of May - Google Trends, spotted there was something going on in South America... no idea !!!!!! that was, so googled to find out.... 30 minutes later, there's a new hub and it's at £7.30 so far.

Also, I will tell you, I have had a few that simply never made more than 10p in their entire lives, even though I really worked hard on those and spent 3-4 hours writing them.

Oh .... and I've been contacted via the site to specifically write pieces for people. Charged a fixed fee - and I still get the residual income for "life", one of those has already made another £35.

Now - if I ONLY did this, and if I actually did it "properly", hanging out in the forums, learning, tweaking, researching, writing .... it'd really pay off bigtime. What I do though is randomly write stuff at the drop of a hat when I think of something and fancy it.

But ... you have to believe - and think long-term. Statistically, I think "If I write it today, then in 3 years' time when I run a report on what it made it'll show £30"... but I could be better, smarter, work harder at it ... I could promote my stuff, tweak and improve my style/layout. All options for the serious bounty hunter.
