We'd often have bread and margarine as a genuine meal... never thought it was to stretch the costs, but what does a kid know.0 -
We had bread and dripping - as a treat:eek:.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Bread/toast and marg dipped in sugar was our poor time treat.......otherwise it was bread and marg.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

Sugar sandwiches, I'd forgotten about them. Tasted lovely, but very gritty! Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Bad for the teeth though.
Mind you, were it not for the extortionate fees, another reason to visit my dentist might be worth considering.........:)
......Which reminds me, the ownership of the farm shop has just changed, and for the better too. I'm afraid a notorious philandering pensioner was hogging her all the time I was in there this morning, but I managed to get a promise that she'd look at my Long Red Marconis* on Monday. Can't be bad.

We didn't have sugar sandwiches, but we did have toast with brown sugar and a little bit of cinnamon, stuck under the grill to make the sugar, cinnamon and butter melt together. We had boiled potatoes and boiled cabbage with every meal to try to fill us kids up cheaply, and had half price out of date food whenever it was available, but Mum liked to have butter just for using on bread or toast. Margarine for baking, dripping for frying, and butter for bread.
ETA We weren't poor by normal standards. My parents owned their own home and my dad earned a decent salary. The reason there wasn't much money for food (and none for holidays except the petrol to get us to stay with friends and relations) was because they chose to pay school fees for all four of us kids.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0
