One of mine once had a headmaster who had clearly briefed his staff that parents evening was an opportunity for the teachers to tell parents the one thing that they could do to help their offspring improve in their subject. It was far more useful than the usual stuff that you can probably work out for yourself.

I remember one of my eldest's english teachers asking the parents what book they were reading at the moment.

To which the obvious response: 'Working longer than 9-3.30 and more than 40 weeks a year I don't have as much time for reading as I would like.'

Edit: PS In case any irregulars wander in here and think I am having a go at teachers the above may have been slightly tongue in cheek

My DD1 apparently produces prodigious quantities of writing but with very poor speeling and sentence construct. No idea where she gets from. However I suspect the teacher doesn't know which child she is as she was described as helpful, conscientious and eager to learn whereas actually she is the world's youngest teenager at age six.

Apparently middle son is an absolute gentleman and a calming influence.....hmm, they can't have seen him in full aspergic rage, even when he has had them in the school car park!

Youngest son they just call 'confusing' and 'complex'.....pretty much spot on there.

Eldest is an individual with a dark creative streak (he wrote a suicide diary when he wasn't suicidal or even depressed!)...but polite and helpful too.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

    My answer would be

"W224 course book and Jonathon Kellerman's 'Deception' interspersed with True Crime, True Detective, Murder Most Foul and Master Detective depending on what mood I am in"

It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

Reminds me of the naive days when the Internet came to our primary school and we had our first class computer.

Members of staff were assured that the filtering software that had been put in place would protect our vulnerable charges from the nasties out there in cyberspace. As we all had accounts that were monitored, we took this info as gospel and didn't attempt to test the system!

Anyway, on one wet lunchtime, it came as a shock to discover the bulk of my Year 4 class being highly entertained by something that went well beyond the National Curriculum content guidelines for biological science.....

In literally three milliseconds from realising what was going on, I hit the power button and crashed the machine, grabbed the two lads who were at the keyboard and marched them out to a quieter place, where I could find out what devilishly clever scheme they had for beating our sophisticated filters.

"So," I demanded, "how did you reach that site?"
The less naughty of the pair replied, "We Googled it, Mr Snave."
"Ah," I said, so you didn't go to it directly?"
Two heads shook, and I believed.
" So what exactly did you put into Google?" I asked, still amazed that they'd achieved this supposedly impossible feat.
    The naughty one just grinned......"Sex..."

After that, we took more responsibility, so computers were kept off line in breaks, but it was quite a learning curve....for all of us! ;)

Somebody I know owns sexy.com. He's the one I mentioned earlier that has about 300 or so.... in fact, it's because of one of his sites that I took this whole html/css/website/etc direction.

I heard a story the other day of an innocent, quiet, middle-aged woman who is some leader at some scouting group thing called the Beavers - she got her first PC and went online, so next time she was at the Beavers she said to them "Well boys, I've joined the 21st century and got a PC. So, for this week's little project, I want you to all research what you can about Beavers for next week". She had NO idea.....

Somebody I know with kids left us online earlier because she said she had to go out to the school's <something or other she called it> Day - she said the school shuts at 1pm and it's what used to be called Parents' Evening. It beggars belief - do these people NEVER actually do a full day??

I used to find all sorts of things looking up stuff when I was a student. I remember a second year essay to do with reproduction the research for which was eye opening, and eye watering.

uck, I was sick again today. I'm ill...like no connection with other health problems, a lot atm. This morning I got so fed up of being sick I thought I might buy a preganancy test. But I don't think the food poisoning of last week, or the flu of a couple of weeks ago are standard symptoms. So instead I had a bath, which \i fell asleep in...finally a reason to be thankful our bath is so unluxiouriously proportioned.
