Yes, can see your problem now, and the trees you're cutting, presumably to get more light in the garden. But won't that give you a rather good view of neighbour's barn? Must be more to it....;)
Still, I'm envious that you have a real pond. We can have a pond and a stream for only half of the year, then they dry up.Annoyingly there is a piped spring, which comes from our land and discharges in a neighbour's garden, and that runs all year. We might have to employ a diviner and then intercept it! Bit of a luxury atm, though it wouldn't be if they put us on a meter.
Yes, we get a good view of the rather ugly barn now....ATM its not so bad, it will be bleak by sring though...no straw wall. Thats where I'm thinking about pleached trees, now not sure. as having the extra light is so wonderful, in front of the barn I need an imaginative solution..but opening up other end of same boundary has made a tremendous improvement. Also, need to stop those trees falling on our own barn, which currently they do....can't afford to deal with asbestos removal now if the roof gets damaged! TBH, there are worse things to look at. More of an issue is I feel less private.0 -
Very disappointed at Generali
What I read from Gen wasn't an individual attack on anyone (I'm not going to go back and reread the thread) but more robustly defending the logic behind the cuts, and maybe a swipe at sense of benefit entitlement amongst higher earners. A view he is certainly allowed and I share. Anyway I don't want to bring that discussion over here.
What is a straw wall lir?0 -

Yes, lets not! What is a straw wall lir?
The barn I overlook is full of straw, which is nice to look at IMO. Its also private and insulates a little against farm-y noises. So, its a wall of straw!Nothing technical.
But that straw will get used as winter goes on. Then I'll see.....farm and mud.

Anyone ever tried to tame a feral cat?
These have not been duped by traps, probably seen them before, but I have managed, over these last few days to get one to walk into the house to eat a bowl of food every day, often twice a day. He's very jumpy, and freaks if I move much but will eat about two feet of me while I'm typing and talking to him. He looks so cold. But considerably fatter than before he'd come and eat!0 -
Looks like Gen has gone AWOL today'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0

We have a cat that appears to live in the thatcher's barns, or it might come from the farm beyond. It used to view me with total horror in its eyes, but now, as I've chatted with it a few times, it realises that I'm 'mostly harmless.'
I don't think this one is truly feral, but it's not overweight, so usefully-built for catching rabbits.
Between that cat, my fit one and the digger driver's dogs, we've become a rabbit free zone.
Then there's the one I caught. Errr, that one is possibly still at large, but a couple of miles away....Well, I was going to town anyway!0 -

Can any cat truly be tamed?
When I was a kid we used to have a couple feral cats that used to turn up at our house from time to time. They were really scrawny, but I sense that they used to belong to a home because they quite liked stroking once you'd won their trust. A difficult thing though, because you don't know if they were once house cats and they'll be quick to give you a swipe across the skin if they aren't interested.
I hasten to add I did grow up with my mother who is a bit like a cross between Mary Poppins and Doctor Doolittle. Animals always come to her. She has robins land on her hand and ask for seed. It's all very strange. However in my imagination you're a bit like her, so it could work! Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Cats tend to gravitate towards me and love me. People who have off-hand or scaredy cats are surprised when their cats come and greet me and purr and curl up on my lap
I do hate dribbly cats though.0 -

I'm with you there. I don't like dribbly animals of any kind. Why some people breed dribbly dogs is beyond me. Give me a collie any day. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Dribbly cats usually need their teeth descaled.
It's not as easy as doing the kettle, though....:rotfl:0
