When we were students, we did that around the TV, to avoid detection.:rotfl:
I think the tracking equipment may be more sophisticated nowadays.0 -

They have a Winter Market. It's in lots of [STRIKE]sheds[/STRIKE] chalets they put up near the Abbey, but not specifically German.
The Roman Baths are quite good, and there's plenty of attractions with Georgian themes, a Costume Museum & and the American Museum too.
A ride around the city on the open top bus is compulsory. DD1 used to do the commentary on one of those, until they managed to stop the private bus wars under the guise of pollution control. Now, you get an official, sanitised version in a bus that runs on natural plant gases, or something. Bloody tree-huggers!:p0 -

I thought that was a drugs joke when I first read it:eek: but I now realise it is a comment on today's Adam Smith report on TV licensing:T
(Were you just risking overheating and electrocution - 99.9 percent of detector vans were dummies, but they produced a Q at the local post office so I supposed they worked.
Thinks - how can one recognise an abandoned "safety" camera Mr Gatso ?)
John.
Bletchley Park:
It is an interesting place if you mug up on what happened before you go. (You have seen the films/documentaries?)
It manages on that unique British shoe string approach, that Cameron now calls the "big society" .
When I went a few years ago, we were shown round by octogenarian geeks - don't worry most of it is Heath Robinson technology that most of us can understand.
The ticket is multi entry and lasts 12 months.
I rather fear that the geeks might be all dead if you leave it much longer.
(We have a relative who worked there during the war and hadn't any idea what she was actually doing - like an agency worker at an HMRC call centre?)0 -

No, we had a cabinet minister's daughter as insurance against drugs raids. In those days......;)
The TV wasn't directly surrounded with foil; we put a big a cardboard box around it and lined that. No idea if it worked, mind!0 -
Just in case anyone hasn't been over to the house buying forum in ages, this thread had me in absolute stitches:

Thanks for that, viva. I gave them an answer, based on an earlier experience, but I than noticed it had already been suggested.0 -

Don't worry, there are always more geeks in the world.
I rather like the fact there is an Alan Turing statue at Bletchley Park.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

Is it terrible for my first reaction to the news story "100 inmates go on hunger strike in an oxford immigration removal centre" to be... well, great, keep up the good work. Should save on the food bill.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

Great wind-up thread! Thanks.
Did I mention on here that we had a surprise visit from the EHO last month, catching-up on the paperwork of a retired colleague by following-up the report of two horse burials here, one in '02 and the other in '06, notified in 2007? (Things move slowly, down yer!)
Anyway, we inspected the sites and, well, there was nothing to see.
Now we have an official bit of paper giving the locations etc and saying it's all OK.
Not much of a selling point, methinks, but at least the next owner will know.

I thought Longleat was brilliant. The fact that you can go back and do the bits you didnt get round to the first time is excellent if you are staying nearby as we were. Real value for money.lemonjelly wrote: »This is the answer I put on another thread wageslave - you got an honourable mention in dispatches
So far I've been to visit Longleat (the house is better than the safari park, which disappointed a little if I'm honest). Caenarfon, Beaumaris & Rhyl (a combination of which caused me to start the "traditional summer holiday" thread), Torquay & Paignton (both of which were lovely, as was the weather when I went.
Next weekend was going to be one of Bath or York, but there appears to be a little hesitation as to which one, or whether there is a better option out there. Portmeirion may take its place...Ellie
