Oh, that's a good choice. With Calabrese, you can normally start picking them from now to frosts... depending when you sowed them. Look at http://www.gardenzone.info/crops/calabrese.php for a picture of what they should look for when you pick. Basically, you want to eat them when the flower buds are still green, and haven't opened up. Mint seems to have taken, now I've reminded family that picking it all will leave none left to spread.
Parsley doesn't seem that happy, wilting round the edges. The new leaves are not curly, even though the old stuff is.

lir I am envious. I adore plums. Everyone thinks I'm a bit nuts, as I love to get to them early, nice & tangy! (NB for tangy, read sour as hell;))
I'm quite happy to form a nice people working party and feed people with plums...and chickens. My friend came to look last night with me (he's going to cut my hay) and he said he thought we'll never, ever get it ''finished''. He laughed when I told him the plans (in the future ) for the pond. One of DH's friends has offered his novice DIY skills for a few weekends (we think we might set him to tile a roof when we have the roof in place :rotfl:) . Where we think we'll put the veg garden is very overgrown, and although I'd like to get productive ASAP I can't quite see how we'll lay it out best yet.
I want to build a chicken house in the style of a granary, up on saddle stones...I wonder if the council will let me.:o0 -

Mint spreads like wildfire usually, so don't dampen their enthusiasm too much0 -

After picking, will I get further sprouts on the plant? It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

Yep, the central head is usually 5-6 cm when you pick it (there is a lot of leeway), and you get a crop of additional, smaller spears, which you can often keep on picking for quite a while. Like a lot of plants, regularly choping off the flowers will cause more to grow.
Once mint is established, you will never run out of it... that's for sure.
Congratulations, silvercar:)“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

Now back, parents are fine, mum just went into panic mode as it is their anniversary today and she got in a bit of a mither over the party etc...all sorted now.
Just finishing that mercy dash and my brother rings me, he hasn't had time to get a card and he isn't finishing work until 6, can I get him one...oh and a present. Now, I made sure I got everything sorted for me by last week, I reminded my brother and yet it was me who had to source and then buy the present and card! On top of that, it was me who helped my sister out too with what to buy and found her something of a reasonable price.....think this is why I am known as the organiser and planner in this family and why it is me who is the executor of our parents wills.
I now have less than an hour to have a bath, wrap my presents, get my outfit ready and be back on the road to do the school run and then onto to my parents to finish decorating the house, be there for the food and balloon arrangements to arrive and then set them all out!
God I wish it wasn't so hot.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Phew, was worried it might be your dad.I'm hiding inside from the sun now but loving being outside during morning and evening. I get a good wifi signal in the gardens and in the back the chickens and cats all come to have a look

LIR - so did I! Mum didn't elaborate in the phone call, just said for me to get there immediately and sounded in a panic. So naturally I assumed the worse, raced down there at top speed, all the while dreading finding an ambulance outside when I arrived and it was all because mum had got in a mither.
I didn't know whether to laugh at the silliness or cry through frustration. We made it!
