Aspiring_Writer wrote: »Morning, I could do with a writing partner LIR, apart from my usual bread and butter, I am thinking about writing comedy, was going to ask Vic Reeves when he was standing next to me in the queue at M&S a few weeks ago,but I didnt want to upset Bob!
In fact, I could try my hand at writing anything except poetry, that has never appealed, probably because I hardly ever read it, let alone want to write it. Strange....
LIR, what do you do for a living? excuse my ignorance, I'm sure the answer is evident in a post somewhere, possibly. But I can't be arsed to look. Just idle curiosity really
I write a lot of poetryAnd I love reading it. My bedside companion is a compilation of poetry called Other Men's Flowers.
I don't do anything for a living. About 6 and a half years ago my brain broke. I contracted a significantly obscure neurological illness, and my endocrine system was hit heavily too. Before that I was a bit of a jack of all trades: I was luckily able to keep my fingers in a lot of pies.
Now I am a housewife. I very occasionally do some stuff to help out other people, e.g. I had a fantastic opportunity earlier this year in a science related role....very basic science...the important bit was relating in to a very particular business application...that was a real one off. Very occasionally I help a friend with a recording studio (I used to be a musician) but in the brain melt that got hard, I can only read one line of music at a time, which rules out the piano, and because my hormone function is damaged, my voice is being impacted by the thyroid gland. Other things I used to do are out of reach for me because of the physical changes..loss of looks, increase in weight etc.
um...the short answer might have been ''nowt''.:o0 -
I'll come and play if you have a chainsaw I can use
We're going to hire one first, DH has never used one, I've only used my neighbours in a very limited way, so not really sure what we are looking for. We thought if we hired it would give us a feel for whether we want a bigger/smaller model
One of the first jobs has to be repairing a listed building and creating a woodshed....then the trees. I didn't think conifers could be fuel, but with MSE feedback and some research it seems they can with three years weathering. I'm going to be warm in winter 2013/14!:T0 -

I think you missed a few dozen things you do, lir, and write about here entertainingly...
I love poetry too - don't know the volume you mention. Is it a compilation or by 1 person?
Interested to hear you write lots of poetry. I write some too. I'm a published poet, actually. Not very widely, but technically, I am.
I love loads of poets - Louis McNiece, Yeats, Homer (read in the original for my Greek A Level), lots of fantastic East European poets, Shakespeare (of course...).
Um, can't think, loads.0 -
LIR, I feel chastened. I cant begin to imagine the impact of your illness on your life. I am almost speehless, but I cannot not reply to your post. You are a special lady to cope with that and build the life you have now, its apparant that you have a loving and supporting husband and family. All credit to you, and i mean that genuinely, I have just edited this because it read a little patronisingly, I hope this amends that.
As for the poetry, well, I put my hoofing size 11's in it there didn't I ?

You have nothing to feel chastened over! Please snap out of that! Poetry is a less popular art than it was (and some would say thats partly the crop of modern poets lol) and TBH, it takes nothing special to cope with illness.....just bad luck!0 -

Thank you so much lir for the frankness of your post. Although I've known you in cyberspace anyhow for a couple of years now, this is the first time I've got really close to understanding your illness. It really is a pleasure to know you. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.
