Are male & female flowers both yellow?
I think I have a number of flowers on each plant, however most flowers haven't opened yet.
Where is the male flowers long thin stalk? In the centre?
Where is the female bump? Is this something I should look for before the flower opens?
My squashes are slow ATM, but I've had a few. The old fashioned yellow mange-tout peas with their pretty bi-coloured flowers are a productive success though, as are the cucumbers.:) I'm not sure about the aubergines, because they seem martyrs to greenfly, as do some of the peppers. I'm trialling about ten kinds of pepper to see which ones are worth it and which disappoint. So far, I can't recommend Cayenne.
DW is also running some trials with tomatoes, using six varieties in five different locations.....very scientific.
It was scarecrow weekend in the village. People put themed scarecrows outside their houses as part of the Flower festival. I will try to put a few photos up later.....0 -

I remember seeing these a few years back, Davesnave. Is it only in north Devon... I can't remember? We were in our favourite spot in south Devon the week before last. I've never seen the scarecrows there.0 -
OK it's a bit late for Sunday night, but maybe these will make someone smile on Monday morning....some of the entries for the village Scarecrow Competition:

We couldn't take part because our house is outside the village, but we made the publicity posters and entry forms, so we were a little bit involved.
ETA. Not sure, treliac. We certainly saw them in Kilmersdon, a village on Mendip. The last time our village in Devon did them was 4 years back.0 -
That's funny.... I would have probably thought it the other way round. But I may be thinking in human terms.
I was soooo thinking the same thing! BTW tre, I'm glad your daughter sounds like she is going to go straight to Masters, it's really hard to do at the same time as working like I did. In broadest terms so as not to give too much away, what type of science? Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Some great photos there. Reminds me.... I did find them a bit spooky when we first came across them sprawled around the countryside.0 -

Okaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay, now you will have to explain the bit about BD's "staff" coming into the shop sometimes............cos I am partial to taking things rather literally
Scary window slippage :eek::eek:
It was 2001 - 04 I think.
Just nice, ordinary girls buying clothes for 'off duty' time.....so branded jeans, tops etc.
He did offer our manageress at the time an opp for 'extra work' as he was trying to recruit bigger girls. It was done in a very polite, non sleazy way .....just as if he was offering her another shop job.
She declined the offer.
Loving those scarecrows DS0 -
The bump is behind the flower, and so the flower ends up on the end of the courgette but I wouldn't worry. You will know it when you see it. These things can't be hurried.

no cucumbers here yet
The aubergines are a great success here, 12 in the greenhouse, 6 of 2 varieties and flowering. The cayenne was rubbish last year, I'm giving it a try this year and growing only long sweet peppers as the bell peppers never ripened last year.
Love love love the scarescrow pictures. i want one now0
