You are probably out eyeing up the broad beans as I write this, but I would be interested in the courgette question, they obviously arent sexed, so? ....
Could you explain gently whilst patting me on the head?
*strokes AW head*
The courgettes we eat are from female flowers. They have a little bump when they grow up. The males are just a flower on a stick. To get the bump to grow, you have to pollinate the female with a male.
Not everything has male and female separated. Tomatoes have both bits in the same flower so they get pollinated by just a quick tap.
Now have a bacon butty to help that hangover along0 -

Well I never knew that. Despite that, we had a bumper crop of courgettes (or rather marrows by the time we got to them...) so nature obviously had figured it out just fine even if we hadn't.0

Nature does it for me too carolt.....I expect things to do as much for themselves as possible. I almost never buy anything, for example, that needs lifing out of the ground for winter. Bringing in pots yes...trying to remember where something that flowers was...nope.
Today we did a cowardly thing and booked ANOTHER two storage crates and started emptying the larger attic....there are two, both are full! We got just over half way through, and have a load ready for the morning. The storage people ar moving all the stuff in storage for us, and we decided the easier the move s now, the better. After box 16 I admitted we'd never cope with the hay...so more to pay for there!
Dear friends are moving and have a few victorian stable fittings...just a couple they said they wanted us to have so we went over there, he two most important are a pair, and we got one off, but the other the screws will not budge.we'll try again maybe with some wd40 squirted on the screw behind the head, but I'm not hopeful.
Cats have ''figured'' it out. One seems quite content, ''helping'' us move stuff and pack. The other is withdrawn.of everyone moving is hardest on cats.
Oh, and we curse the day we bought books, cds and records. So MANY heavy boxes. I sai a brief hello to me ''thin'' clothes...god I used to dress so well!0 -
Today has been spent trying to help my parents plan their 50th wedding anniversary party...so I have organised the balloons and the banners at the local party shop (she is wonderful, always gives me a discount).
I also gave them the number for a local lady who does cakes and that is now organised, plus someone to do their buffet (local bakery).
Later was spent trying to get their scanner to work (we failed), to try to scan in their wedding photo for the announcement in the paper (plus my own little personalised gift idea - thanks to other posters on this site).
Can't believe that in 2 weeks, they are celebrating 50 years married, they don't seem old enough! All the others you see in the paper all seem to be a lot older than my parents but then, mum was only 17 and dad only 19 when they got married.
Now getting stuff ready for another boot sale tomorrow morning to try to get a few more pennies for spending on holiday and to get some music books for middle son.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

What sort of music books are you after Sue? Every now and again we get rid of some of ours to replace with new.

Keyboard/piano and drums......and some guitar ones thrown in for good measure! I can't afford to send him for lessons and he gets so far working out the keys himself from listening to tracks but he has been asking for the books. Went into a few shops yesterday and the cheapest I could find locally were £14.99 (eekk!).
And thanks, office based work is much more my area as is customer services sort of thing...maybe it will turn out the ECDL wasn't a waste of time!We made it! Morning all, well it least it is feels like am to me ! was meant to be going to the Bromley pageant today, a classic car show, but I had a late night and only surfaced recently. So, the papers, a coffee, and wander down the road later may be the sole agenda today me thinks.
Oh, and some scheming....:)"If you are going through Hell, keep going" - Winston Churchill0 -
Well back from the boot sale...not sure whether that was worth it or not! After taking out pitch fees, I made the grand total of £14.75.
It's usually a popular boot sale but there just wasn't the people this time around, in fact there were less people actually doing the boot sale.
So for that £14.75, I now have a completely beggered back, I got up early, the kids are tired.....grrrrrr.We made it!
