A chick update.
Only three have names. The first hatched (Cobar...my mother has adapted this to ''crowbar''), one called ''Alison'' because she looks like someone I know called alison and ''Pet'' which dad thinks is ok, so long as the hen's real name is Petula. Pet is the darlingest little creature. They had a big growth spurt and are now much bigger than little wren, but you could think Pt was the size of a small thrush perhaps, and with her brown colouring she looks ''nothing too special'' Of all she is the bravest and the most engageing, if someone walks past the crate she rushes over, and she's content to be held and stroked for sometime (most tolerate being held, with obvious distaste). Pet is a maran cross with my cream legbar and She is so responsive I'm thinking about ...clicker training her. There are lots of people clicker training chickens: its neither original or radical a plan. It offers no particular merit for the chicken...they do most of what human's wan them to do by themselves, but it does improve the sills of he human trying to train them.0 -
I forgot to post that the robins which we discovered as eggs on 5th April, in a pile of flowerpots in the barn, flew on 2nd May. They chose a good spot, as DD was able to make it cat proof relatively easily, and the babies couldn't get out until their flying power enabled them to clear the 8' wall at the rear.
We lost at least 3 robins to the hard winter. Nature has already restored the balance.:)0 -
We've had a busy morning see the geneticist at the big hospital but we finally have eldest sons diagnosis - Ehlers Danlos.
Bitter sweet to be honest, it's nice to have a name for it but also a little worrying that it is running in the family. The geneticist also wants middle one to be investigated for it as he does lots of weird things with his fingers and bruises easily (so easily and bleeds so much that he was checked for blood clotting disorders when he was younger) but for the moment they are not concerned with youngest despite him already having HMS (on top of his other things).
On the dad note, boy is he improving, he was almost back to his usual self yesterday..his speech is now more normal with inflection, his wit is there, his thinking is becoming a bit quicker and he is so so frisky (according to mum!) but is gutted today on speaking to the doctor and being informed he is not allowed to have sex for the moment.....We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Glad your dad is improving a little...0
