Good luck, lir.
On a totally different note, I've been idling by starting to daydream/plan our 10th anniversary weekend jaunt abroad I mentioned many pages back (or was it last thread?).
There are so many possibles... I want somewhere up to 3 hrs flight or a Eurostar from London, romantic, good food. I have this image in my mind of European outdoor street scene in the evening, cafes, low hum of conversation, balmy, dusk, sooo romantic. But I dont know where?!
Please inspre me - generals or specifics eg countries or hotels, whatever, really.
Ooh, this is such fun. :j
Some where you've been or somewhere you haven't? Where have you been? When are you going?0 -
All roads lead to Rome Carolt.
There is no other city as far as I am concerned.
My ebay selling career has so far netted a guaranteed £10.42 and I am thinking of booking a weekend on the strength of it.
EDIT Three hours from me is Newcastle, not quite the same ambience. Although I have spent more than a few good nights thereRetail is the only therapy that works0 -
Eurostar to Paris is an easy journey.

I've been to more or less every country in western Europe, bar Luxembourg and Monaco. So probably somewhere I've been.
I love :smileyhea Copenhagen (possibly my favourite city in the world), Oslo, and Norway generally, Switzerland, but I quite fancy maybe Italy? Sicily? Sardinia? (partly as not been to the last 2). Maybe Austria if there's a romantic bit - I know there are, but not Vienna - there are all the weird castle-y bits but I'm not sure if one can get there and back in a weekend, or what they're called?
Anyone else got any dreamy holiday destinations in Europe to recommend?
Oh, we're going in June, so it should be nice weather, hopefully, almost anywhere...0 -
OH likes Paris. It's easy, but a bit ...unoriginal. I think I'd like somewhere small enough to be able to walk around, pedestrianised, or old town-type, so I can meander and eat/drink yummy things on the way. Not too noisy...0

Milan?
Oh Milan. If you are a complete lunatic and don't want to go to Rome, Milan will do nicely.
I am not a huge fan of the French. Or Paris. They have this crazy roundabout (near the Champs D'lysee I think) where you just sort of close your eyes and go.
It put me off the entire countryRetail is the only therapy that works0 -

Venice?
I love VeniceRetail is the only therapy that works0 -
Milan is lovely, but not the most romantic. Brera is lovely, and Navigli is super in the evenings. Venice is the city of my soul....florence (I think is wonderful...but not the huge drama people seem to make it out to be...don't tell DH I said that though
) Sienna is lovely. Persoanally I'd avoid all for in the heat of June....and head to a coastal city. Grosseto? Never been.....
I'll ask DH.....he says he'd recomend Rappalo, or of course the Lakes...Como or one of the others. Recco he says is wonderful: he's recommend there too, great food, super sea. All near Cinque Terre, the more obvious destination.
Sicily...what about Agrigento? (I have friends from Sicialy but don't think I've been...I can't remember, ATM)0 -
Of course, lir - you're a good one to advise on Italy.
I've not been to Venice since I was 5, but is it not supposed to be a tad noisy/smelly in the summer? Or is June enough out of season. I would love to go there. Somewhere near enough an airport we can get there easily without driving would be good too.
I'd thought of the Lakes, maybe - haven't been there...
Keep going with the suggestions...
Rappalo rings a bell - where is it? And the other places you mentioned?0 -
