I'm more than happy to shop in Peacocks, or Primark, or Matalan. A good buy is a good buy, wherever it's bought.

But seriously, how stuck can you get by your birthright? And where do you place someone who has one parent from wealth and so called class and one from the other side of the tracks?

And then some who get a headstart in life end up in the gutter and others start with nothing and make a huge success of their lives.

Wageslave, with your clear ability to express yourself succinctly and your knowledge and love of literature, you are obviously a capable person who is able to present yourself as the woman you would like to be.

Then this is who I chose to be. The tinkers lass who sold fish round the doors. There is a certain romance in that.

The pi key girl who was married at 17 and was beaten black and blue by the time she was 20, we will pass by.

Maybe it is just me. From what I can see of the world the working class all seem to be represented a la Daily fu cking Mail by the worked 3 days 2 years ago.

We really aren't all like that. I was earning my keep age five.

I adore LIR class. Fountain pens and evening jewellery. You couldn't make it up.

But my class. The honest working class, so ignored by every party. We made this fu cking country

My parkin is just James Martin's parkin - v easy, v cheap and so far un-ruinable - always works well and is v popular. With grown-ups as well as kids.

James (the band) takes me back...

Oh sit down, oh sit down...um, did they actually do any other songs? :D

Cheers for the recipe - will investigate shortly.

    Regarding James, http://www.oneofthethree.co.uk/jamesalbums.htm

Gold mother, Seven & Laid are all masterpieces imo, full of songs you may know, but don't know who they're by.

I am a big fan of Whiplash, Wah Wah, Millionaires, Hey Ma (a year or so ago). They're consistently releasing really good albums. In addition, live, they are right up there in the best performing live bands I've ever seen about 5-6 times now at least).

I got into them after the whole madchester thing. First album of theirs I got into was Laid - brilliant piece of work it is. I borrowed off a mate on cassette. It took me a whole year to listen to side 2, as I loved side 1 so much every time I got to the end, I'd rewind it & listen again.
I like that song. I bet LJ knew I would.

Probably because I find myself ridiculous. And like sitting down.

One wierd fact is that at gigs, the whole audience used to sit down for "that song"
There are so many others, sometimes, laid, born of frustration, ring the bells, sound, johnny yen, PS, On top of the world, Vervacious, Blue Pastures, I could go on far too long here...

True story. When I first got into them, I was working at a motorway service station whilst at uni. There was 1 lad (can't recall his name) who used to talk music a lot with me. He always started his shifts as I'd finish. Anyway, 1 friday, at the 6pm handover, we were talking, & as I left, I shouted across to him, in full view of about 300 customers waiting "Get laid by James. It's fu cking brilliant!":o:D

The boots were accidental, I bought another pair I looked dreadful in.

I don't really look vaguely like anyone. A pi key version of Monroe shapewise maybe.

I look vulgar. I hate how I look

Sorry, I'm not going to let this go.

You've shown in your actions that you have class.

You motivated, cajoled. You've acheived what some thought was unacheivable.

You've already shown that you are a beautiful and intelligent person.

    You've shown that you're clever & motivated.

You've shown that you are honest.

You've shown that you have morals.

You've shown that you are not 2 faced, & you mean what you say.

In my eyes, these are all characteristics which show class, integrity & beauty.

Plus I have an image of you in my head in those boots that make me atigrou.gif and smarmy.gif

So, less of this gloom.gif and this paperbag_125.gif cos it is making me rage.gif

cos there are peeps out there who worshippy.gif the pixels that are wageslave...

    :)

Agreed. In fact, if I weren't shacked up I would be thinking that a group of us would have a great start to a happy free love commune.

Well, I'm blowed. I wrote a very rude letter to the conservative standing in this area, offering to help but making it very clear it was only because i think its the best of a bad lot here, and I'd rather do than moan...tbh I expected by somewhat grumpy missive to be marked as weirdo mail...but indeed, they have got back to me, extremely politely and I'm going to be a doer not a moaner. Its a safe Lib dem seat.

edit: and silver cr, I drive a smart car today, not the roadster, a normal one, and the gear changes do feel mighty weird. I'm still torn because I woke up really wanting a daffodil car, but after driving a smart I really feel like I'm trying o convince myself to like it still. :(

Back from a short break to Weymouth. Nice sea front hotel and a real chill out. Didn`t even go to any of the local attractions. Poor Mrs.P has had a flare up with her back pain but a bit of walking did us both good. Bit wet but didn`t care. Listened to the budget speech whilst sitting on the cliff above Durdle Door. Can think of worse places to be.

Oh well, it`s become another location for the retirement list. It`s actually equidistant to where we are now with a family commitments and our original home town with family there. Both about a 2 and a half hour drive.

Didn`t think that we would be able to afford Dorset but oh my, there seems to be an over supply of 2 bed retirement flats just about everywhere.
