You can't give auto glass or any other repairer a call, you can only go through your insurer or pay topwacks:mad:
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

Not entirely correct. While it may be true for the likes of Direct Line, Elephant, Tesco and Esure, you can call any repair / replacement company you like.. just as long as they do accept insurance enquiries.

A 5p piece is about 18mm, maximum allowed for MOT is 10mm, so if its within "Drivers Vision" a repair is no good.

    unless its repaired properly
drivers vision for mot consists of drivers side wiper swept area
thus a chip larger than 10mm would fail the mot unless its repaired properly:)

Yes, but a "Repair" dosent make the damage invisible, so it will still fail, wont it?

Can't see any good reason for doing that though, and risk the insurer not paying as you have not approached them directly. Not saying it would happen but stranger things do.

As I said the missus works for one of the biggies and liases between customer and insurer. The advice they give to anyone approaching directly is to inform there insurer directly as it saves them any hassle if for some reason there is a problem;)

It's called protecting their interests. Also known as business.

But I was looking at it from a customer perspective, and the driver there is to protect yourself;)

    You're doing what they want...

    Where's the freedom of choice?

No not really, but I would inform them 1st, then, if I had a preference, go where I wanted. So I'm with you on that aspect.;)

I have a friend down the road. He runs what is now a 3rd generation bodyshop, he has real issues with the major insurers who almost bully people into using their own repairer, removing the option of a coutesy car if the customer wishes to go elsewhere. He is an authorised repairer and simply supplies his own loan cars to keep in buissiness.
