Car has been resprayed, only just found out.

Hi, hoping to get some opinions.

i have a car on hp, from Ucan / Carcraft financed by Welcome Finance. The car was 2 yrs old when I got it.

The car is sea green in colour and as far as I was aware always was.
About 5 months ago I sent a SAR to Welcome to get info they weren't too forthcoming on. A document from Welcome stated the car was silver and I presumed this to be a typing error. I did question Welcome on this but they said I should have checked all the paperwork at the time of collecting the car. I did and all my original paperworks states the car as being sea green with no mention of a respray.

I did a check on DVLA as I never received a log book, and DVLA state the car as being silver!

Does this seem odd as I have been advised that it is highly unusual for a car to be totally resprayed also being less than 2 years old.

Thoughts / opinions on what to do?

mistakes happen ...is it a light green that might be confused with a silvery green?

There's only a limited number of colours that DVLA use and cars like seafrost green etc., are invariably just listed as silver.

I think this is the key. Also do the vin plates, chassis number, and engine number match the V5? Do they look like they have been tampered with in any way?

We don't have a logbook. We were told it would get sent, it never was. We've just requested it from dvla.

Have you carried out a HPI check on car, like the one provided by RAC?
    https://www.raccheck.com/consumer/RACLiteSample.do

This will indicate if car has had a colour change in past
Also if you enter in the VIN as displayed on your car it will check that also.

  • Car is probably stolen or has a dodgy history

that colour would be classed as green under DVLA
