Hope your daughter understands all this.

My dad used to make a habit of telling me exactly which hen we were currently eating in our casserole. Suffice to say, I wouldn't eat chicken for years.

    Julie had a little lamb
    She asked for some advice
But in return she found she got
    PM's that were not nice.
No reliance should be placed on the above.

Well, Im speechless Im afraid. How could you contemplate walking a little soul in a north London park along with your little girl and all the time thinking of having him slaughtered when he is fattened up. Im sorry, this just doesnt ring true to me.

Do you think that letting your daughter help you rear this lamb and get attached to it and then eat it is not pretty sick?? I am not a vegetarian but I would never dream of taking on an animal to then slaughter and eat for my Sunday dinner.....

Ah so Danny, you'd rather that the lamb was unknown to you as you eat it's flesh. Nice one.

Tad hypocritcal. She has a lamb, she's going to raise it, and eat it. End of.

I would probably do the same if I had a big garden (though not lamb because I don't like the taste!)

OH grew up with chickens, they got eaten all the time, when they stopped laying or they fancied a chicken for dinner.

I bet there would be less outrage if you had said you were raising a chicken to eat, because they aren't cute and cuddly like a lamb!

Does your daughter know that you are looking after the lamb then are going to kill and eat it?

What if she gets attatched to the lamb?

You make me laugh though, you're bathing it and cleaning it, and letting it sit with you, yet you're looking forward to killing the little blighter!

I could understand you raising it to eat it if you weren't having it in the house and sitting on the sofa etc with you, but if it were me, I would be starting to consider it as a pet and therefore couldn't bring myself to eat it.

Surely it's better that the lamb has a nice life before he is slaughtered? Assuming the OP is looking after him well, I don't see the problem. I would only be worried that her daughter may be upset about it, but that is for the OP to decide. I couldn't do it personally as I would become too attached to the animal, but I agree with the principle of rearing animals yourself, giving them a good life and then killing them cleanly and swiftly at the end.

Juliepink26 - Just make sure that he has an environment suitable for his needs and that you feed him the appropriate food for an animal that is going to be eaten. Also make sure he has been checked by a vet and has been given any medication required by law for lambs that are to be consumed.

    Good luck OP.

People do all over the world every day: it was commonplace in this country through both world wars. Baby lambs are cute adult sheep are not, the novelty will wear off.
