I started turning my immersion heater off during the day and my leccy dropped from £130pcm to £78!!!!!! (This sounds high but we don't have gas or central heating or anything)

Argh, they are awful, aren't they. I try only to have mine on for the min possible. I don't think it even has a thermostat so the water gets scalding hot! I would rather not use it at all (just use boiled kettles for the dishes) but OH likes his baths... Then I figure I may as well use the water because it's hot when it really doesn't need to be!

anyway - back to work for me. Working late tonight - will be walking past all the closed shops so no temptation to spend!:p

Hi everybody  Good to see the thread nice and busy today!

My list today looks like this:
    - booked train to my sisters over easter - the cheapest ticket I've ever found too. Plus, will promise (to myself and you guys!) to be v good and take food for the journey and won't shop/lunch in London when we're catching the connecting train. And added to spending diary
    - updated spending diary woo hoo, new distraction
    - meal from plan tonight OH is busy at work
    - NSD at work but need to pick a few things up on the way home spuds and washing up liquid, check, and added to spending diary
    - wash dishes while the water is still hot (really did try to last night but run out of washing up liquid! What a shame!) well, ok then, if I must...
    - wash packed lunch box at work instead of adding to tonight's load check
    - not wearing any make up - trying to make it last to my birthday next
month (mum was asking what she can buy me) oh no, just saw 15% discount on Benefit on the MSE email!! Free birthday pressie is cheaper than 15% off - that is my mantra!

    Happy Wednesday!

Got my new debit card through so checked everything's where it should be. All seems as expected. CC#2 is going down nicely so that should be cleared next month as planned. Then I'll start on dreaded #3 and will really start making a dent in that 3.5k I WILL cull this year!

Have any of you read Leo Babauta's website? zenhabits.net? Today's post is "The Little Guide to Inspiration". Maybe not everyone's cup of tea but I think it's quite a good complement to this thread. I'm just off to read some of his blog now.

Have a good evening all xx

Morning chaps Milly this did make me giggle ....

Leave out sky+ box for freecycle person coming at 5pm

I'm trying to work out if I can 'afford' to get married later this year or if I'm best to leave it maybe for a bit or til kids are bigger - The wedding part (Wellies, woodland, woolly hats) isnt that expensive (<£1.5k), the romance is all there and fine and well, but after 7 years of being together if we get married/live together - I'm trying to work out IF I can actually afford the change in income that will mean for me as a single parent and the kids (eg DS is due his EMA later this year, WTFC etc etc etc) - need to think and then talk to OH. I know I sound so unromantic - but it will mean quite a change financially for me (not so much for him - we've not done the 'finances' talk bit - He's got a really really good salary but I've always just been independant). Who says romance isnt dead?????? Or am I just too stubborn/too independant after all this time and I know I don't really want to be financially dependant on someone else?

I got to thinking about this yesterday when thinking about single parentdom - sorry for dumping this here - it prob belongs on my diary.

ETA quidco money is in WOO HOO

    Hello there,

noticed your giving a sky+ box away.... why didnt you sell it on ebay???
  • hi everyone...
a long long day today!!! Have achieved 3 hours overtime and have car shard with OH all week this week so far!! Using his petrol a tee hee hee!!

Had left overs for lunch ( 2nd day of sticking to SW - so not doing too badly yet!!)

posted an item off from ebay and have another to send tomorrow.

Have run out of things to sell oon eba now it think will have to think of another money making scheme.

Worked out that by July 2011 all my credit cards will be clear - I will still have a loan, but can't imagine how it will feel to have no credit cards, am getting quite exited- its the first time i've tried to work out a time scale - i've always been to scared to incase i'm over faced!

Sleep well all, see you tomorrow x

    Debt-free and Proud!
    Hello all

Good to see everyone so upbeat.

Not much news from me..too much time at work :( but at least that keeps me spending less

    • spent £7 on lunch for me and colleague but he effectively paid me back by buying me lots of coffees during day
    • BUT spent £74 (ouch) on next terms fees for DD1 and DD2s dance classes
    • checked online banking - better really than it ever has been before- hoping that ISA application comes through soon before I get tempted to stash my money somewhere else!
    • storecupboard tea for everyone
    • ebay parcels posted - prompt payers..don't you love 'em. I hate packing up but love selling stuff
    • washing on 30
    • seeds received from catalogues so will be sowing after get back from hols
    • more eggs.. 1 or 2 every day - its fab:D
    • posted my current mortgage balance for the MFiT-2 thread - check out the new signature!!:T

Am off for a few days on hols so if I am not posting thats why! Am keen to still be MSE whilst I am away and also going with sister so may try to persuade her to see the light of Martin's ways whilst I am away with her. Although tbh she is pretty frugal by nature...at least she was the saver and I was (am?:rotfl:) the spender in the family...

    Best of luck all
