EA, we have all been at that point huni. It's just her way of upping your supply. Horrid at the time but give it a few days and it will settle down. She's about 2 weeks old now isn't she? Your breasts now start switching to supply and demand rather than the filling they were doing. (I'm sure Krystal will correct me if thats wrong). But it is about this stage that most folk have it hard.
You are good enough, you have just never seen first hand what breast feeding a newborn is like and so you see this as abnormal, when it is actually normal.0 -
You're not bringing the thread down, EA. We're here to listen and we've all been there. It is totally normal to feel tearful and down in the days and weeks after you've given birth. I vividly remember blubbing on the phone to my Mum at work!
It's totally up to you to decide how you think best to feed Lily, but all I would say is that in my experience, and I think a lot of people on here, BFing does get easier. To start with you feel like you are sat under baby all day and that your nipples never get a break...that is normal. Lily's still getting used to feeding from you. I still have days where I feel like I've done nothing but feed Henry, but those days are getting fewer and further between. Just remember that every moment she spends on your breast she is encouraging your supply to meet her needs.
Also are you looking after yourself? You need to make sure you're eating well and drinking tons to keep your milk supply up. Also get as much rest as possible as that helps your supply too.:DYummy mummy, runner, baker and procrastinator0 -

EA, GISI beat me to it. Your body is designed to feed your baby - she won't starve on your milk and she's feeding constantly because that's what babies DO. I know it seems like it's all wrong, but if you really want to persist with BFing, giving bottles is going to decrease your supply not increase it. I'm not trying to start a debate, but you have to be careful while your supply is still establishing itself if you geniuinely want to BF Lily. If you don't, then by all means carry on with the bottle. I'm not expert, but giving her bottles at night so early on might mean you're producing less milk than she needs - the more she feeds, the more you'll produce.
Other than that, just offering major hugs. IF you're sore, have you tried nipple shields or similar? I'm not sure on that front, but other people may have tips.top 2013 wins: iPad, £50 dental care, £50 sportswear, £50 Nectar GC, £300 B&Q GC; jewellery, Bumbo, 12xPringles, 2xDiesel EDT, £25 Morrisons, £50 Loch Fyne

Aless, I've been meaning to ask.. What's the usual amount of maternity leave new mums take in America? I've been reading an American forum and a lot of them talk about going back to work at eight weeks or so

EA - please don't feel bad, we've all been there. As has already been said, it's her way of telling your body to make more, and your body just needs a bit of time to get used to the demand. It does get easier. As she grows she'll feed less and for shorter periods, but she's only tiny and her tummy's so small the milk doesn't stay in there for very long.
Well done Mr MM!!
Good luck for the interview MDW!

:hello:
Just wanted to update those of you who I haven't annoyed by private FB messages .... Been for Andrew's regular paediatric appointment today, and they are still not happy with his growth, he's only averaging 100g/week. So they've asked me to stop expressing, and switch him from EBM & fortifier onto super-high-calorie formula (Infatrini). I'm a bitas it seems the end of an era, and fact that I will soon be able to eat spicy food and drink alcohol hasn't really sunk in yet
