if you'd gone through the stress of them complaining you'd been overpaid and they wanted it back NOW! .. £5 a week for that security is more then worth it x

My samsung phone has decided that it won't work. It texts and calls fine but when I speak the other person can't hear me!! Any ideas? Have checked and it is not on mute...
replace it with a phone made by anyone but samsung :p

Its not just the HB and CTB though SM, if your dog got sick then having those benefits would entitle you to PDSA care. We're entitled to £3.something a week in HB but not CTB, and last month I shelled out £150 in vet bills. If I'd taken up the HB instead of thinking there was no point, I wouldnt have had to shell out for those vet bills!

Thanks to people who've replied about earrings - I think I'll ask our charity shop if they take them.
You would probably get Council Tax Benefit too. If it was at the same level then you would be getting £520 assistance per annum...you wouldn't sniff at that. And it is only form filling in...even if you didn't get help with your CT then it is still £260 - better in your pocket than theirs.
Once we'd paid our house deposit we qualified (it was our savings that had disqualified us) and I nearly applied but because we are self employed they would only accept accounts done by an accountant. As if someone who qualifies for H/CTB is going to be paying an accountant to do their accounts!

They can only claim that if you don't declare everything. I used to work in HB and CTB and as long as you are telling them everything and you tell them if your circumstances change then there is no reason for them to overpay you.

It's £348.40 a year. If somebody offered you £350 you wouldn't say no (well I know I wouldn't). The whole point of the HB/CTB system is to provide assistance as a means tested benefit - so as long as you are under the threshold you are entitled to claim.

Is it a private landlord or a council / Housing Association property?

But then again I have no experience of the systems from a claimant POV so I should probably shut up :D
