I have read this whole thread with interest. I am shock, horror single and CFBC so imagine what kind of comments I get! Put simply I will never be having kids beacuse I don't want to and I'm glad I have that choice. My life suits me and I love it. I'm a fab aunty and do like kids but I personally would prefer to have complete freedom and fewer responsibilities.

Not sure how I feel about paying for other peoples choices when they don't pay for mine. Maternity leave does nark me a bit though as I'd love some paid time off work to do as I choose but obviously am not allowed to whilst pregnant women are. This is a bit irksome but I can't see it changing.

What annoys me the most is the assumption that everyone's life will follow the same path and all women must desperately want to 'settle down' at some point. Well I don't. I want my life to be full of friends, frolics and fun as long as I have my health. X

There's another thing - I looked into a career change, knowing that you could get a bursary if you were going into nursing. Unfortunately it meant I would have had to also have another job going at the same time in order to make ends meet.

My friend, however, was able to do it because she had an increase bursary because she has children and they are therefore dependents. and no, she is not a single mum, she has a partner, the girls' dad who works full time also.

Hiya all, yeah me too, child free by choice. As a teenager and then as a young adult never got clucky over babies or wanted to hold them when a family member brought a new arrival round. Once I got to college just wanted to have fun and enjoy life and ended up marrying somebody 16 years older than me who already had 4 kids (all then were over the age of 18) Briefly dabbled with the idea of trying for one but it wasn't to be and to be honest now I am glad.
Always much preferred animals especially dogs!
Don't feel that I have missed out on anything at all, I have 3 lovely nephews/neices.
At the grand old age of 43 am enjoying the fact that myself and my new partner (who never wanted kids either) can please ourselves. We can go on holiday when we want, have a great social life and have no hassles with ferrying kids around or parting with large sums of money!
I feel I am doing my bit for world over population by not producing more.
    ;)

:rotfl:Sorry had to giggle at the suggestion of giving birth to a baby and caring for him/her for the first few months of their life as being some paid time off to do as you choose - I guess in the sense of having made the choice to have a child it is but not sure what the equivalent paid leave would be for women who are childless - paid leave from work to undertake voluntary duties maybe? - not sure

That's what I meant, not that the first few months of a babies life are a holiday but that you are paid to have time off to do as you choose ie have a child whereas if I said 'I'm off to Thailand for a year to wear a sarong and fanny about' then I can't see anyone giving me any wages!!!

Maybe it would be a good idea if everybody had 'sabbatical rights' after they'd been working for their employer for a certain amount of time. I suppose they'd have to be taken on a statutory lower pay similar to basic maternity.

Hmm, what could I do with 6 months...

:rotfl:Probably not no - but I guess there could be a case if you wanted to do something a bit more useful with a paid sabbatical.

The idea is a good one

it would be nice if this thread was more about celebrating and enjoying the childfree lifestyle than knocking or resenting those who have decided to have kids.

Ach but you know what I mean about paid sabatical. It does bother me a bit. Anyway live and let live. I know what I prefer and my friends who are parents say they prefer things their way. I don't resent anyone as I beleive that I have the best deal FOR ME and that's all I could ever wish for.

It seems that may have been what the thread was originally about/maybe ;)
