Shilling - What do I do?
Comments

YAY !!!
I knew you were trying to get at me, it worked too-points for that.
The reason it makes my blood boil is as most women can confirm, its often used towards females to 'let us know our place in the world' Had a few moments in the past when i could quite easily thump someone when they used it. (normally followed by them giving me a squeeze on the !!!!!!, you get my point )
I cant put into words what i meant by the shill bidding 'joke' (i can see it may not have been funny enough to be called that !) Kind of along the lines of "the lady doth protest too much" They keep saying no but the behaviour says another story.
Anyway its greatly appreciated that you bothered to apologise, and it looks like you pulled in the process, great night all round !!

I would simply say you were dishonest when you claimed (citing the fact that you are supposedly a "law graduate") that shilling is illegal.dmg24 wrote:You obviously know very little about the English legal system, and have misinterpreted what I think I phrased very simply.
All you can say honestly is that in your opinion there may be a case under the act.
You hoped that your distorted assertion would resolve matters in your favour without question. Well, it didn't.
Do a count. There is more than one person who does not believe shilling as a big deal. You cannot possibly know based on such a small sample, how the proportions would go in a jury.Look at the views of people on here. On the assumption that we represent a majority of people, it seems a foregone conclusion that people believe shill bidding to be dishonest.Your misinterpretation of the second point is wholly incorrect. It is irrelevant what the defendant believed a reasonable person would believe.
Let me quote what you said:
"A defendant will be dishonest where he realised that he was doing something that reasonable and honest people would regard as dishonest"
According to the statement you made (blue), the statement quoted (red) is self evidently WRONG.
As I have shown, that is incorrect. According to what you yourself have stated, my second point is 100% correct. As noted earlier, your second point is incorrect so your further argument invalid.
I think it's quite obvious from your confusions about:If you ask me to demonstrate a point, I would ask that you do not do me the discourtesy to argue against something which you clearly do not understand.
1) When you can unequivocally state something is illegal.
2) The need for a defendant to believe a reasonable person would find a certain act dishonest.
that, in fact, you know a good deal less about the UK legal system than you claim and believe you do.0 -
You are really boring me now.
Through your posts on this thread you have managed to offend several people, and I can't be bothered to argue with you anymore about something that you just do not understand.
I am a graduate of Law, and as well as my full time employment I still work on a voluntary legal helpline at my ex university. I actually double checked this afternoon with my ex course leader, and he concurs.
Unlike some, I'm now off to have a life ...
But on a positive note, thank you to all those who have gived positive advice, you were a support in getting the issue resolved. Hope I pressed all the right Thanks buttons! xGone ... or have I?0 -
Yes, it's funny how often people get bored when the errors in their arguments are laid out clearly and irrefutably.dmg24 wrote:You are really boring me now.
I've shown very clearly, and in colour, where you are so confused that you contradict yourself. You can't answer that so you walk away. I suppose that's your best option.I can't be bothered to argue with you anymore about something that you just do not understand.
Concurs with what, exactly?I am a graduate of Law, and as well as my full time employment I still work on a voluntary legal helpline at my ex university. I actually double checked this afternoon with my ex course leader, and he concurs.
That you can bypass the due process of law and make a dogmatic and unqualified statement that something is illegal when it is, in fact, nothing more than your wholly untested opinion? Indeed, an opinion that appears to be based on some extremely confused understanding, as demonstrated above.0 -
Yes I think this has been done to death now - anyway there's a new shill bid thread we can all have the same argument on!!!!!!!

To post above, perhaps I can help......
Your browser ( thats the bit that reads websites) has a number of buttons at the top . Relevant ones are Back and Favorites.
Like bidding on ebay reading certain posts is not compulsory.
Moglex for prime minister .On the internet you can be anything you want. It`s strange so many people choose to be rude and stupid.0 -
my 2 pence worth
The arguments seem to have run along the lines of buyer beware (know an items market value , decide what you are prepared to pay and stick to it) and if you don't then your a little naive - and if you get stung don't whinge.
Fair enough but then same must go for the shiller - if your naive enough to shill in a way that can be easily spotted by even an unseasoned ebayer you deserve all that comes to you - so report her !!!!!!.
Virtually undetectable shilling is easy to implement - and if your too lazy or thick to do this then you deserve a roasting.
If the shiller had done this properly the OP would never have known and probably been very happy with her new dress (ignorance is bliss).
And the seller would have avoided reserve price or high insertion price fees.
Instead the buyer ends up feeling cheated and very wound up even after her refund.
And before anyone attacks me nope I don't shill ;+)0 -
