Moglex, as stated earlier, your comments really are not appreciated.
That's a bit arrogant. You may not appreciate them but they are just my opinion and others might. Why post if you only want to hear people who agree with you?
I am grateful to all those who have offered constructive comments to the discussion.
Suggesting that not whining and getting on with your life would be the best option is constructive :D
Furthermore, the contract was not freely entered into, as there was fraudulent misrepresentation on the part of the seller.
And that forced you to enter into the contract how, exactly?

You really do need to start to take responsibility for your own actions.

You decided how much the item was worth to you.

You made the bid on that basis.

What you bid was your responsibility.

    Great news ...

I have just had an email back from the seller, who has admitted what she has done (said she didn't realise it wasn't allowed?!!) and has offered to refund me £30 via Paypal.

Thanks again to everyone who has helped with this.

Needless to say I shall still be reporting her ... as soon as I have received the refund!

why report her, she's admitted the mistake, AND provided a refund, when she could have said 'get stuffed'

escalating from there is just plain nasty, vindictive and serves no real purpose

leaving feedback with 'shill bidder' somewhere is more than enough to warn other buyers
    money saving my @rse.
I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)

What a delightful person you are!

She immediately admitted she'd made a mistake (which rather implies she really didn't know it was wrong) and now, despite getting a major bargain, you're going to try and get her in the s--t with ebay.

I'm sure you'll have a really good nights sleep when you've finished stitching her up.

I'm reporting her because she is still doing it. She has loads of items currently listed where she has done it.

I'm not being vindictive, I just don't think it is fair on others that she will do it to.

If she's still doing it after you made her aware that it was against the rules, then it is fair to report her. If she carries on regardless it would be like a shoplifter just paying for stolen goods when they were caught.

I still can't fathom why it upsets people so much, but as it does, people really shouldn't do it.

Totally concur with bleugh here - leave it be. Yes she's made a mistake but she's admitted it and offered to refund you the difference. If we locked people up for first offences, none of us will be here.

    Mistake? yeah yeah yeah.

Ebay will kill itself in the end because no-one will trust it anymore.

Are there no honest people left ?

I would be careful with letting on to the seller that you know about their shilling. They might start bombarding stuff you are bidding on and inflating the prices to annoy you.

I'm really not sure what everyone is so up in arms for, so I'll just stick to the facts.

Shill bidding IS NOT ALLOWED! Ebay will suspend you and possibly throw you off for it. Forget the £14.99 Cd in HMV (which you would return and buy for £9.99 unless you were really dumb!!). Ebay don't allow it, and that's that.

The item would have gone for £30.00 if the buyer hadn't shilled! The buyer shilled, raised the price and the buyer ended up paying £30 more for it than it would have sold for. Simple really. The buyer claims back the £30.00 and reports the seller for shilling!

It's not allowed. It's not fair, it's not ethical, it's not good practice. The seller isn't stupid, of course they know it's wrong. Only a moron with absolutely no morals would think it was ok. You have to report shill bidding, to let it carry on would be unethical and a lot of unsuspecting ebayers would be parted from cash that they were tricked into paying out.

I don't know why this is hard to understand. Just because you're willing to pay £60 odd for something, why should you if you can get it for £30.00. Why pay £60.00 because you were tricked into paying that much. It's deceitful, plain and simple.
