I think I may have SPD (only 13 weeks....) - going to see the GP today but it's not my usual one so I don't know how good she'll be

All went well thanks emma...here's hoping for a quiet two weeks till my dating scan. We'll probably be due near the same day - going by my LMP due on 9/9 but scan said 11/9!

SPD - symphasis pubis disorder

Your pelvis has two bones at the front held together with ligaments. These soften just before birth so your pelvis can expand for baby to pass through. Sometimes they soften too early and the two bones just wobble about providing no support at all for your bump. This means your tummy and back muscles have to do all the work holding it up, so you can get pain in both, and you get awful pain and reduced mobility in your pelvic area. To put it very bluntly, it feels like you've been kicked hard in your lady bits :eek:

I've got it and have got a support belt that holds up bump and holds the pelvic bones in the right place during the day. I don't wear it at night, so I'm sleeping with a pillow wedged under my bump and a pillow between my thighs to keep my pelvis straight. It stiffens up at night, and I end up leaning on the wardrobes to get to the loo, as I can hardly walk sometimes.

I can't stand on one leg, so have to sit down to put socks and knickers on, and I struggle with stairs. I can't lift or move heavy things, and I have to ask hubby to push the trolley when grocery shopping, carry the laundry basket downstairs and hoovering.

Still at least I get plenty of time sitting down with my feet up posting on message boards, so it's not all bad

well the GP says it's too early for it to be SPD and to just take some paracetamol and keep seeing my chiro... helpful.

It's not too early for it to be SPD! I could feel the beginnings of it within a few weeks of being pregnant......if if doesn't improve, or seems to be getting any worse, go back and pester them.

I feel exactly the same as you Becles - can't stand on one leg, have to lean on things to get to the loo if I've been in bed, or sitting down too long.....it's a real pain in the bum.....almost literally

Please be careful anyone that has SPD, I ended up in a wheelchair after the birth of my son, because I aggravated it badly during labour. It took 6 months to be able to walk without crutches. The pain was worse than the labour itself!
