You make some excellent points here Cleaver, but you're being a tad patronising too!
Apologies, I genuinely didn't mean to! I think a lot of atheists can come accross a bit like the worst type of relgious people: trying to convert and preach to everyone. I have quite strong convictions that there is no God, and will happily argue why if asked. But I have no desire to try and convince religious people because, as Really said, most people are lovely, especially those with a strong moral code (which religious people often have).
It can be difficult to get your general tone accross on forums methinks.

Mmm, and I do agree with you. Though I count myself as agnostic... cos I have no real proof!!0 -
Richard Dawkins talks about something like this in his book 'The God Delusion' (which I wouldn't recommend to anyone by the way, unless you enjoy reading the same 5 pages over and over again. For a staunch atheist he doesn't half sound like a religous man trying to convert you...).
One of my work colleagues was taught by Richard. He said Richard's theories were codswallop (he may have used different terminology). And he's pretty rationale, believes in dinosaurs, unlike many other religous types.

Actually, sod that, I don't care if I sound patronising! I think believing in a God and following an organised relgion in 2010 is pretty dumb. I would never say that out in real life as I wouldn't want to offend anyone and, as stated above, it doesn't do any general harm. But if I look at it from an objective point of view, religion is stupid.0 -

You don't have any real proof that there aren't invisible, pink, elephants flying around my lounge. Would you describe yourself as agnostic as to their existence? If someone asked you if you believed in invisible, pink, flying elephants would you state that you weren't sure as you have no real proof either way?0 -

If it serves a beneficial purpose, happiness, comforting, social network e.t.c.
I would consider it neither dumb nor stupid..0 -

Why in 2010? Okay so science has moved forward, but we are still the same, basically superstitious and poorly educated people of this world.0 -

I believe what I see and don't believe what I don't see. Yes, there's a lot of sense there but, even I know, it's not the whole story.0
