Seriously though, the atheist & liberal conclusion is a bit of a no-brainer isn't it? I don't get the sexual activities thing though, I would have thought monogomy in both sexes showed greater intelligence, but maybe I'm biased (or just hopeful) We cannot change anything unless we accept it. I'm happy there's a consensus that's moving in favour of women. Hope it catches on.
Perhaps men are starting to run scared now so many women play them at their own game. Monogamy in women was alway desired by men... as the only way to be sure they were bringing up their own children.0

Interesting but does the early belief in religion mean you will not persue science which then means you hinder your own IQ?
I like this kind of stuff as I do not see intelligence as nature and this kind of goes to prove it. (that beliefs can hinder learning etc. But on the other hand what your mother and what you eat could effect it so i have to give nature some points)
But one thing you can't take away from religious people in general (OK there are some very bad examples of some abusing religious power) they stick to a old set of rules, these rules being broken are some of the problems with modern society.
I suppose they could argue who in the end has a higher IQ really intelligence or an excuse to be self absorbed, self destructive and greedy.
PS I am not religious but observe people who tend to follow religion as a set of rules to tend to be of high morel fibre.
For all the laterally thinkers out there who sets IQ as a measure of intelligence? How do we know it is intelligence, could it just be a
measure for an abnormality? For all we know if history took a different route intelligence could have been knowledge of religion.;)
Quick head spin, all very interesting.0

There is plenty of evidence that a god doesn't exist. As an example, I could state that there are invisible, pink elephants with no mass flying around my lounge. Whilst you could never fully prove that these things don't exist, there's a lot of evidence around to suggest that they don't.
There's plenty of evidence to suggest every theory for the origins of the universe, too much of this metal is this form, where did dark matter come from e.t.c. e.t.c. However we 'know' the universe exists, so the question is how? Tis best not rule anything out. Even invisible pink elephants flying around your lounge. 0 0

I'm all for these people but have no time for the ones who turn up at church each Sunday and spend the rest of the week breaking every commandment that exists. That can include religious leaders too. I detest hypocrisy above just about anything else. For all the laterally thinkers out there who sets IQ as a measure of intelligence? Are you creeping into the realms of philosophy now?0

Indeed.... there's so very much we really don't know or understand. After all it wasn't that long ago 'they' thought the world was flat!!0

Agreed. So a progressive, modern way forward would be for society to live to a set of moral codes and treat each other in a decent way, but at the same time realise that there is no requirement to worship a made up man (men) in the sky.
As you've probably sensed, I'm an atheist. My Nan, on the other hand, is 87 and a staunch Catholic. She goes to church every day, and I think it does her the world of good. She gets to socialise, speak with same-minded people, do some good work for charity etc. and it's great for her. There seems to be a strand of atheism at the moment that seems hellbent on trying to 'convert' religious people to not believing in God, which seems rather ironic. I'm happy with people being religious, if that's what floats their boat (and this includes my Nan). As you say Really, most religious people seem to follow a code of being generally nice and charitable, which is great.
Having said all this, I do have a quiet wish that people would understand that we don't really have a requirement for superstitions any more, whether they be god, horoscopes, faries or anything else. It's quite bizzaire to me that in 2010 that all this stuff still exists, but I guess it doesn't do that much harm.0
