in the last recession under the tories people lost their homes left right and centre. whilst lenders circled in for the kill the vultures picked off the repossessions. prices fell through the floor.
although this recession has probably been more far reaching repossessions have not occurred on the same scale. lenders have been encouraged to help people keep their homes where possible, there has been some help for the unemployed and mortgaged and monthly repayments have not gone up up up.
as a homeowner i know which party i'd prefer in power.

you have kept your home because of artificially low interest rates.
every person who has saved and lives from those savings is suffering at the expense of fools who have mortgaged themselves up to the eyeballs.0 -
I won't be voting for the economist who presided over the worse financial collapse in living memory.0

oh, and which party got us into this mess in the first place? NuLiebor0

I dont think of which I prefer just because of owning a home.
It is up to the owner to protect repayment not a government IMHO. But then I suppose they have to give owners and renters the same access to the same benefits.0 -

so you'd rather see people who've suffered a loss of earnings or stuck in negative equity lose their homes would you? nice. i know why i won't be voting for your lot. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -

Interesting.
Maybe it's the 'saver' that is the fool?0 -

let's not forget that employment reached three million under the tories and was even at 1.6 million at the peak of the boom in 1989.
the uk is nowhere near as messy or miserable as it was then. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -

Its sad, but unfortunately this is natural selection, and its how human beings evolved into the dominant animal on the planet.
We could argue all day about what was "the right thing to do" and everyone will argue it from their point of view.
The government has chosen to help the reckless who took out mortgages they couldnt afford, at the expense of the sensible, who will suffer increased taxes as a result. Fair or not??0 -

You think this "recession" and it's effects are over?
Just because the recession is over statistically, it doens't mean that loads more will not lose their homes.
We are still in the stimulus stage. We are still taking the medicine to protect us from the ugly disease. The medicine is what you are describing as the way people have not lost their homes.
That's all great, but we will soon be post election. The medicine will have to stop, whether the tories or labour get in. It's already stopping in many cases.
It's when the medicine stops that people feel the effects.0
