I saw a job advertised here last night but the closing date was yesterday - do you think it is worth emailing them as they were asking for part time and casual staff.
I would really like to get cafe working experience and it seems like a nice environment.

I'd send them an email saying you have only just seen the advert and are really disappointed to have missed the opportunity but hope they'll bear you in mind if no-one suitable has been found. At the very least they'll be impressed you tried, at the best they will extend the deadline for you.

Yukki - it took me 6 weeks to get from being able to run for 10 minutes absolute tops to being able to run the full 10k in about 70 minutes. I still can't believe I did it, but something just seemed to click into place in my head and I got into it. I had been trying on and off for a few months before that, but having an actual race to train for really made the difference.

Someone told me to slow right down, so that you are actually moving at walking pace although still "running", and keep going for as long as you can - aim for 10 mins at first and then up it. Once you know in your head that you can keep moving for that time, the next time you try it you can up the pace very slightly and before you know it you will be doing the full thing at a normal pace. It worked for me and proved to me that it's all in the head!

Joey that sounds interesting. do you do 10 mins at slow then keep doing 10 mins but upping the pace and then move on to longer times at slower pace and the up pace again.
or do you do longer and longer times at slower pace and then start upping the pace?
Sorry if that is a really dense question.

wow joey that's amazing. I started doing interval 2mins run, 3mins walk and now upped it to 3mins run, 2mins walk. I have noticed it get ever so slightly easier each time, but still not easy enough for me to run mor eyet lol.

A bit of both really. I used the dam as it is a 5k circuit, so no temptation to cut the run short (I really am that bad!!). I "ran" for 10 minutes - literally there were people passing me at a fast walking pace! - and then allowed myself 2 minutes walking, and did that all the way round. Then the next time I had to run for 12 minutes before I could stop. I then jumped to 30 minutes as I realised that it was harder to start running again after walking than it was to keep going. The first time I got all the way round it took me 55 minutes - it takes 45 minutes to walk it :rotfl:

But that was it then - once I knew that I could get all the way round without stopping I kept on doing it and about 2 weeks before the race I had my time down to 31 minutes. Someone who had run with me when I first started came out with me and I easily kept up with him, which I was on a high about for weeks!!

I am aiming to get round it in 40 minutes today and then build back up again. But it is now pouring with rain, so it's not going to be pleasant!

    Do you run too Jo?

Just popping in to say good morning to everyone :)
I'm off out for the day - going to the zoo to see a new born baby giraffe this morning. It's a huge event as a couple of years ago we lost three giraffes through a fire - the mum and baby died directly from the blaze and the father died of a broken heart :( Also going to see the elephant who is sadly on his last legs :( The zoo's pretty much next door to my house and i've got a pass to get in free, it's amazing how attached you become to the animals.
Then i'm going to a place called Living Coasts this afternoon for lunch and to see the penguins and seals etc. Beautiful weather out there - i might even take Joey's advice and have a run around! I feel inspired! See you all later - have a fab day everyone xxx
    Just £10,852.28p to go...

    :D

    Trust that little voice in your head that says "Wouldn't it be interesting if...";
    And then do it.

Joey I truly truly don't run. was always joint last at cross country at school and now I have asthma and very unfit. BUT its one of those things that I've always wanted to beat and prove I can do ..........but probably not enough to actually do anything about it:rotfl:
I really need to have more energy and I think the way to do it is to actually do energetic things as exercising definitely increases energy but can't quite bring myself to do anything:o

Lol, me too and he will be here in ten minutes to pick me up. Seriously, I have never ever run before in my life and it is only the fact that I hit 40 and suddenly can't drop the weight just by looking at a diet sheet like I used to that pushed me into it. I despise gyms but have tried really hard for years to stick to going, now I'm saving myself loads of money as there's no membership fee for this, and I actually start to look forward to it.

A relative of mine, who I hope isn't reading this, has also never run before. She came out with us for the last few weeks we ran last year, and she also got all the way round the dam - the second time she tried!! It really is just a case of slowing it right down so that your brain accepts you can do the distance, and then gradually building the speed up.

Anyway, don't want to bore everyone, I know it isn't everyone's cup of tea. I'm off now to get [STRIKE]wet and miserable[/STRIKE] fit and thin. Have fun all
