As an ex Tiscali customer i am now with Talk Talk i want to leave as they have changed my terms from unlimited to 40GB download limit. My problem is we pay line rental to Talk Talk and i have been informed to get another supplier i will have to go back to a BT line on a 12 month contract....is this the only way ?.
Currently i pay £22.50 for line rental, broadband, and 24/7 inclusive calls i am able to leave with a months notice as my contract is up. Tesco would be ideal for me at £23 for unlimited but they are not in my area yet and they told me even when they are i will still have to have a BT line.
What options do i have.
Thanks in advance.

Broadband is exchange specific, so we would need to know your exchange. go to:
http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php
Then post up your LLU options and more advice can be given. LLU deals wil be the cheapest, if available on your exchange.
You can't use any other broadband supplier while your line remains LLU'd to TT.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Available in my area are: AOL, O2/BE, CW/Bulldog, Talk Talk (of course ), Sky /Easynet.
Thanks macmanIt`s getting to the point0 -
So forget AOL and TalkTalk. Sky only worth considering if you get Sky TV.
But the obvious ones are 02 or Be (same network and ownership).
O2 is currently offering only broadband, but will offer calls and line rental from later this month. LLU Broadband is from £7.50 (fiver more if you don't hav an O2 mobile no to register. With line rental and Anytime calls the package cost will be £20 or £25 respectively.

First two months broadband is free and Quidco cashback is currently £50.
if you just go for the 02 broadband then you would have to take your line rental back to the BT network first. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Do not have Sky so thats out. The O2 option looks really interesting but may i ask you when O2 phone becomes available in my area how could i join that ( for line rental, calls and broadband ) if i was locked into a 12 month contract with BT, i think what i`m asking is it not possible to go from one LLU straight to another LLU eg Talk Talk to 02.
Thanks again.It`s getting to the point0 -
dollop,
i'm in same situation and have decided to go back to BT for line and O2 for broadband.
Just off the phone with ofcom as Tiscali/Talktalk wouldn't give me a MAC - ofcom said that as of the date that BT take back the line rental, ALL services with Tiscali, inc broadband stop, and then I should call my chosen new ISP to arrange connection, no MAC required - this is because of being an "MPF customer" i.e. having line rental with Tiscali as well.
So looks like some down time is inevitable.

If you want O2 a BT line is inevitible for at least 12 months being honest. Just ensure you don't take the Evening and Weekend 12 month renewable contract and stick to either the weekend plan or the anytime plan. They are both standard 12 month contracts. Then you never know O2 may try and offer you extra discounts on their landline package when available to take you from BT.0

We had this problem with trying to get away from Bulldog, who changed to Pipex who changed to Tiscalli.
The service was appaling with max speed 400kb ,with bad phone quality. Eventually transferred to BT as no-one would take us on without a BT line. BT fixed the line quality in 24 hours and sorted spedd out to 2.9gb within a week.
We pay £2.00 more than bulldog a month but its worth it.
Whenever we had any line faults they took 3 weeks of "its your equipment" before they would contact openreach (BT line repairs) who fixed the fault in 24 hours on every occassion.
I know its not what I should be thinking but BT have done us proud.
We had to sign an 18 month contract to get free weekend calls and free internet for 3 months. But as soon as you are connected you can opt for additional free calls all day for £4.00 a month this reduces the contract to 12 months with no penalties!
Be careful of people who say they can change you without going via BT for 12 months as they always end you up with a cancellation cost from BT.
Incidentaly Bulldog agreed a £20 discont for inconvenience as we had no phone for 3 weeks and when we changed to BT they cut us off aweek early. I had stopped the DD payment as they would not show the credit and they started to get the croation debt collectors phoning us trying to get the "overdue bill" despite the account being in credit on the latest. Three months later after 2 snotty letters to MD at registered office all has gone quiet.0 -

Have you established that your line has actually been LLU'd? Call 17070, you will get a message 'this no. is defined as 0XXXXXX' (your number). If you then get a series of options 'press 2 for Quiet Test' etc, then it's still a BT line. If no options, it's LLU'd.
Or use the checker on the O2 Home broadband page:
