Royal Mail

I was sat relaxing and i hear the letter box go, i went and there was a delivery slip saying i had recorded letter to pick up from the sorting office - Reason it wasn't delivered - Because i was out???

So i went and told the postman i am in why didn't he knock and he apologised, so i said i would sign it there and he didn't even have it. He hadn't even bothered to bring it, rather had just decided to leave it at the sorting office and then slip a 'sorry you were out card' through my letterbox on the sly.

I have just got off the phone to the sorting office who asked what the time is on the slip to wait before collection, it says 24hrs "Then you must wait 24hrs" I explained that there wasn't even an attempted delivery of it and still i must wait 24hrs????

I knew service had gone down hill but come on!

after watching a "dispatches" program recently about Royal Fail and their deliveries in the UK, I think we're lucky we have a great postman that you can depend on...probably because they seem to have smaller runs over here, oh yes...most of them appear to be local as well so they don't waste the first 2 hours of their run looking for an address...

    this is a bit strange
if the postie didnt bother to bring the item out it would be at the office
    so no 24 hour wait
if they did then where was it when they were on the street
i know i ask this a lot but are you in block of flats?
did they not even bother to track trhe item for you? did you track it on the RM site and if so what does it say?

My postie does this sometimes (but not all the time). I suspect it's because he's gathered that I am normally at work, but when I have taken the day off and waited in specially for something, it is !!!!!!! annoying to get the slip posted through because by the time he's delivered that, it's after the time that the sorting office closes (which is another thing that !!!!es me off - I live in a major city and the sorting office for my part of it closes at midday Mon - Fri and 10:30 on Saturdays). I live in a normal terraced house, not flats, bit of a student-y area.

No they don't. Some people who work there might be a bit slack, but the majority give a toss about what they do and try and do it well. Even though there is political pressure to break it up and ruin it, it's still something that we can be damn proud of, even with its problems.

This is typical, sorry, I know some of you think RM do a good job, but I wouldn't even send anything recorded delivery if it was important! I have a collection of over 20 recorded delivery slips for items that have been sent to me, I haven't signed for any of them!! the are just left in my post box with everything else.

24hrs? That seems a long time. It's usually about 4hrs, or "after 2pm" or something, to allow time for the postie to finish his round and get the package back to the office.

it depends on how the office operates, many dont have staff returning to the delivery office,so mail is 'pouched off' and returned through the post office network
