24hrs? That seems a long time. It's usually about 4hrs, or "after 2pm" or something, to allow time for the postie to finish his round and get the package back to the office.
Mine is always 24 hours. Sorting office shuts at 2.30.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

Haha, how lucky you are to have never seen 24 hours. In Huddersfield it's now 48 hours usually, and the sorting office (in the centre of a fairly large town) closes at 12:30 Monday-Saturday.
I have had 2 hours once written on a card in Coventry, I assumed it was a mistake. My package was there in less than 24 hours though. IIRC Coventry's sorting office is open quite late too.0 -
This is typical, sorry, I know some of you think RM do a good job, but I wouldn't even send anything recorded delivery if it was important! I have a collection of over 20 recorded delivery slips for items that have been sent to me, I haven't signed for any of them!! the are just left in my post box with everything else.
Apologies if I'm mistaken but it sounds like you think recorded delivery is Royal Mail's "extra reliable" service. It's pretty much exactly as reliable as normal post, you're wanting Special Delivery.0 -

its purely down to the way the office works
if its a driver in a van then they will be going back to the office that day,so they can put 2,4 or whatever hours
if you are pouching off then you can only estimate,if you know it will be late getting to the PO then you need ot add 48 hours just incase its not back next day0 -
My story, I got home to say I wasn't in, which is normal i thought no problem I'll call at the sorting office on my way home the next day, when I got there they couldn't find it and had to take my number, when I got home another blinking card the muppets had tried delivering it again, couldn't beleive it.0

I had a similar issue.
The postie was not knocking on the door. Instead he was just posting the slip through the door and walking off.
I had to go to the sorting office 3 times, the 3rd time was the last. We were in all 3 times too. The first 2 times I spoke to the staff at the sorting office, who just said it wasnt them who dealt with complaints and to phone the CS number.
The 3rd time, the Area Manager was there in the waiting bit speaking to someone else who was complaining, so just dealt with him.
Hasnt happened since!0 -

area or office manager?
one carries quite a bit more clout
as for staff on the door not dealing with complaints
thats a bit of a cop out, though it is a bit tricky as staff on the door are at basic postie level so dont have any seniority to any other staff members.there used to be a postperson higher grade (PHG) but that has been phased out even though the job term PHG is still used
its down to the managers to sort these things out, though they avoid the desk like the plague
its just as frustrating telling managers about x,y & z problem and having the smae people coming in week after week about the same thing
as for
however one thing to point out is delivery to flats/tenements.if you cant get in the stair you cant deliver packets/cards
this is where there is a bona fide reason to deliver just a card the next day or whenever you an gain entry after making a genuine delivery attempt0 -
It might be worth noting that we dont have a main outside door, you can get to our front door easily without entering a main front door or pushing a 'trades' button.
The manager at the office did check this with me when I complained. He also did say he was the area manager and would get straight onto it.
We actually had a knock on the door later that day. The postie put the letters in our hand and apologised. Couldnt get a better resolution IMO0 -
yup sounds like the area manager
not so long ago i contacted the area manager regarding a matter and it got addressed fairly sharply.though it shouldnt require this to get simple stuff done0 -
I have picked up neighbours mail from the drive and lawn 3 times. Rang the local office and heard nothing. Wrong mail put through my letter box, caught the postman up and held the letters out to him. He said "can you take them round for me? I've already been that way" Rang local office, nothing. There seems no way to complain higher. The web site has a link saying send email but when you click on it you just go back to the start "what type of complaint". I could go on and on.
I now only buy mail order if assured they use a courier service.A fool may give advice but the one who takes it is the bigger fool.0
