I have a good behaviour policy in my house for my kids which operates on an electricity basis

If they can't behave they arent allowed any electicity

Ie no games, computer, etc no tv

    And cold food

And best of all - also nothing that runs on batteries

You only have to cut the plug off of a device ONCE - and remove batteries to make it known you aren't kidding

(The plug cutting off was set up for an 'old' cable which looked like it was attached)

Now I just have to turn up with kitchen scissors and things get done........:)

I've been known to remove batteries and switch the power off for ten mins at the mains to get my point across

    They soon listen

(Can't say this is my tip - I 'borrowed it' 10 years ago from a pal with 4 boys.)

    Its also quite money saving!!!!

That is AWESOME i love it! 'grounding' in this house has always meant no boys toys etc but i love the concept of no electricity! gosh almost wish one of them would misbehave so I can put it into practice:rotfl:brill :D

    Afternoon all!
Had a good day in school and managed to round it off by forgetting to bring books home to mark - never mind!

Josie - I'm sure you'll be better off - I don't have kids but know what an unhappy relationship is like and once I'd made the decision to end it it was like a weight had been lifted and everything seemed much clearer. Good luck.
There is a happy ending - have been married for 5 months to a fab man and am very content.

    Today's little list...
    • Walk dog for free exercise (x3)
    • Took lunch to work
    • Had breakfast at home
    • Stay in and watch the 5 days thing that started last night - quite good so far
    • No school tomrrow (training day) so will find out where training place is and see where I can park (central Manchester so will cost I imagine)
    • Do a bit of work later
    • Have a bath later and relax
    • Get stuff ready for tomorrow so I can have a mini lie in
    • Checked banks - at least its payday soon
    • Have jacket spud and something from cupboard for tea
    That's it......have a good evening
    January grocery spending - £82.73/ £120

    Today I have/will:

    1. Checked online banking
    2. NSD
    3. Used money of vouchers whilst shopping
    4. OU Coursework
    5. Walked dog

I now may not be able to pay off my next account tomorrow after all:( My car cut out 7 times today so I have taken it to the garage to be looked at. I hope it doesn't need a lot of expensive work or it may be bye bye car:eek:

Morning milly & mogchops  What a lovely cheery post to read in the morning! Hello to everyone who follows!

I'm just getting ready to head out to work so boring list for me today. Looks a bit like this:
    - breakfast @ home, take lunch to work, have Sunday's leftovers for tea tonight
    - do not get tempted by shops in town or vending machine in work
    - charge phone at work
    - feel good about myself for taking a bag to the charity shop, remembering that someone will need the stuff more than I do
    - hopefully NSD. Definitely don't need anything so will be most upset if it's not!!
    - tidy, tidy, tidy up tonight! Did nothing at home last night and the place is a tip! :o Maybe I need to find myself a letting agent to come round for a bit of motivation!!

Phew, all done. Well, not got round to the tidying yet, but that's this evening's task. :rotfl:

Today I also finished the shop for the weekend away. Came in at under £30pp and that's (hopefully) for all food and booze/soft drinks for 3 days (minus meal out booked for Sat night). :j Good ol' MSE friends!

Bagpuss, I got rid of my car last year after it failed its MOT. Helped me get back on my feet (insurance was due not long after too) and wasn't as bad as I imagined. I walk everywhere now

Hi all - hope you've had a lovely day.

    • Also bought loads of snacks just now for when travelling on Thursday eve to start our holiday - theres 8 of us so bought quite a bit but much cheaper than service stations and I will be splitting the cost with my sister.
    • Washing at 30 and again used the wooden racks and banisters to dry off
    • Sold my 2 items on ebay..not loads but sale price of £21.50 so a start - just now need to pack up and see what the postage is so I can calculate the real gains after listing fee etc
    • Dinner from freezer - lentil curry later - yum
    • Checked online banking..ok not as good as it should be but could be much much worse

    Bye all

Hi folks, just got in from work and wanted to tell you my news then I will go back and read the thread and do my MSE things.

I am one of them people - if it wasn't for the bad luck I would have no luck at all !!

Well today I have had an email to say I have an interview for a job I really really want which is also a promotion :j:j:j:j:j:j:j

I applied for the job knowing I didn't have the exact qualifications and experience they were expecting but when I rang them they said they were open to something different and would consider my application.
I have loads of experience and qualifications in a different field and i'm sure my skills and knowledge are transferable. My only real problem is I have an appalling sickness record but there are good reasons for this and I am now in good health.

I have already made an appointment with the manager for an informal meeting and an appointment with the 'practice learning facilitator' for that area. OOOh I am going to be so busy now preparing a presentation and preparing for my interview - 2 weeks away at 9AM  good job I am good on a morning :rotfl:.

    Also - OMG - I got a phone call about a cash win on a competition :D:D:D
But I was so distracted by my interview news I didn't take it in properly and not sure if its a win or a con. Just have to wait. It won't make much of an impact on the debt but will help with some house repairs I need to do PDQ. Fingers crossed for me.

I'm not building my hopes up over either ( well maybe a bit), but after having an appaling 2009 this would be amazing if either of these came off.

Right , my list for what is left for the day ( if I can concentrate ) :
    • Competitions :D
    • surveys
    • check online banking
    • get organised for MS tommorow
    • tea from meal plan - chicken curry
    • Relax and just enjoy the good feelings :)
Hope my good luck / great mood rubs off on you lovely people

When its Dark look for Stars

WOO HOO I actually went into Tesco and only spent £2.36 picking up the things I forgot yesterday of my list! thats never been known before gosh I was good ;-)

NFMof3 you're not on your own kids are hard work even if they're not pushing boundaries - I've got 5 altogether DSs are 15,12 and 8 and DDs are 3 and 3 ;-) my mantra is never say what you won't do so i try really not to come out with either empty threats or empty promises. If I warn them about being grounded etc I always carry it through. That way they think twice when I threaten something cos its real!

Its as important for the kids to push the boundaries as it is for us to keep them - helps them learn and be prepared to compromise occasionally if he can come up with a reasonable argument for something if only on a trial basis - when they think you listen it always makes a difference! sometimes extra responsibilities help when they are around that age makes them feel more grown up and important ;-) Oh and sometimes u just need to scream blue murder/completely lose the plot etc that occasionally works in this house too ;-)
awesome list good luck with the OU course i've done one and its really motivated me ;-) xx
    Thanks SaxySarah,
I think I have a busy life with 3 boys (2 having hearing loss) plus naughty spaniel let alone 5 children! How do you keep sane????
Have you been big brothering me, as lately I have made too many empty promises/threats because I'd rather not face the big tantrums that would follow.
Thank you for advice on boundaries either way - feel bad when I have time to reflect on shouting at boys when naughty/defiant/answering back what seems like constantly, when in 'ideal parenting land' I could sort things out calmly and quickly without the thought of valium, wine, chocolate or coffee, or a one way ticket to some quiet beach without anyone else!!
Hmm. Think I shall be setting up a chores rota so that a) boys feel responsible, b) there's a couple less jobs for me to do - nice - I like this idea.

Are you stopping at just the 5 children?!

Absolutely Definately STOPPED! but I wouldn't be without any of them! (or the dogs ;-))We all give in if there is a hint of a quiet life - and anything to avert a tantrum! my boys are too old for tantrums now really apart from the odd strop but one of the girls is prone to them she's a proper little diva!! I don't fight every one there i some things I won't budge on and if that means a tantrum then ok but I try and keep that for important battles like having biscuits instead of dinner etc if there's something less vital and i can blackmail bribe and divert then I do! I guess pick the battles and long why don't they make chocolate flavoured valium??????? Must be an extra challenge with the hearing loss i never thought about how to shout silently!

P.S. there is no such place as perfect parenting land i promise you......all those years I thought my friends were super organised with their kids in bed at 6 and lunchboxes by the door.......i found out the kids were glued to the xbox and lunchboxes were yesterdays!!!
