What if said Dog barks all day long while you are at work (if you leave your dog at home) driving the neighbours crazy?

Then I'd suggest the dog is possibly bored, or possibly suffering with separation anxiety. It may be barking at frequent disturbances/noises from outside - it's almost impossible to tell. First action would be to let the neighbours know it's causing an issue.

Sarabe - thanks, so there IS a UK equivalent to Australian Husher.... I was wondering about that... Thanks ;)

No, no, no. The calming band, anxiety wrap is very different from the Husher.
A dog with a behaviour problem needs help not punishment.

Dogs shouldn't be left for more than 4 or 5 hours at a time. Unfortunately many dog owners do leave their dogs far longer than this but that doesn't make it right, nor does it make them good dog owners. If you're not going to be able to give a dog the time and attention it needs and deserves, you shouldn't have a dog. And to the poster who said 'what if your dog barks all day when you are out?' - you certainly shouldn't leave a dog muzzled all day! That is irresponsible and cruel. Tackle the behavioural issue and give the dog the time and attention it deserves.
And yes... I know you won't like my reply.

I neither like nor dislike your reply.

I am not a dog owner I work FT as does OH so we couldnt give the dog the time of day it needs.

My point was mainly because I get peed off with neighbours who have dogs and leave them in the house all day by themselves so all they do is bark all day long, of course they dont realise their dog barks as it doesnt do it when they are in, so priving it is very hard to do.

Thankfully I dont live next to said dog anymore, there is a dog next door here now but I think the wife is part time as I only hear it barking sometimes which I dont mind/can handle lol

Those are exactly the type of people who shouldn't be dog owners.

It is possible to own a dog (or preferably two, so they can be company for one another) and work FT hours - many families do it, but it does mean being dedicated to the dogs out of work hours.

IF you have a problem with your neighbours dogs, let them know! They aren't mind readers. One of my dogs barks like mad on my return from work, but I do know he doesn't bark much, if at all during the day.

I was just generalising. Of course there are some good dog owners who have to work full time and their dogs are well cared for and happy. But it's not something that should be recommended and it certainly wouldn't be good for a young dog or puppy who needs lots of attention.

I disagree. Its very selfish to get a dog when you know your going to be out at work all day. Its different if you pay someone or have someone who can go in and walk the dogs to break up their day. Its also different if you have to leave the dog all day as a one off and can't find anyone to look in. However I really don't understand people who work all day and decide to get a dog. Its very selfish and unfair on the dog. Also your be suprised the number of people who recieve complaints about their dogs barking all day and are unaware.
Anyone who is suffering from this problem really should keep a diary and get in touch with their local council for assitance.
If your dog is the nusiance I really think its unfair to punish your dog for barking with these "behavioural tools" because its bored and lonely.

The house in question had two dogs, they used to work each other up I think, we did tell the neighbours, they didnt think it was a problem as their dogs didnt bark whenthey were home, so I dont think they believed us.

Strangely the barking stopped once one of the dogs died.

Its just annoys me when people buy animals and dont think about what they are going to do when you are at work FT
