Hushers, choke chains? Have you considered getting help from a dog trainer rather than trying to punish the bad behaviour out of your dog(s)?

Ermmmm - where did I say that I am looking at this particular item with a view to buy it for my own dog?

Where did I ask for advice re dog (mine or not) behaviour?

Where did I say that my friend is using one?

Merely posted a link and asked if anyone has any personal experince and has used it on their own dog - nothing more nothing less.....

Have you tried googling it again to see if you can get any first hand experiences of it as the dogs in the photo do not look that comfortable so I doubt there are many people on this board who have used one.

Yes I have but as this is Australian "invention" I wanted to see if anyone has come across one here in UK so asked on UK board.....

    Yawnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

Have a look at this link. It is a better solution.

    http://www.mekuti.co.uk/calm_bands.htm

I would have welfare concerns about the husher.

Sarabe - thanks, so there IS a UK equivalent to Australian Husher.... I was wondering about that... Thanks ;)

I've seen the results of behaviours which start when people start to try and stop their dogs barking using all sorts of aversive methods - from e collars to spray collars and 'humane' 'hushers'. This is the extent of my 'personal' experience, and it's as far as I'd want to go.

You can't open a thread and then expect to dictate on the answers you get - that's forums for you, and don't forget, it's not only you whose reading the responses, there may well be other people reading it who are considering getting a husher and need the full story.
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

Well maybe in that case you need to make your posts a tad clearer. Normally when people ask for opnion on a product they are considering the use of one. Thats maybe why 99% of the posters would assume your going to purchase one. You need to make your intentions a bit clearer rather than just randomly posting messages asking about [STRIKE]medievial torture devices[/STRIKE] questionable dog behavioural tools

    Well - not really.

    My post is very clear.

It is the answers that hop into "assuming" mode.

Also I did not praise/negate this "device" - merely asked a question which was then turned into something completely .. else?

I have never stated my personal opinion about the said HUSHER either.

So maybe, just maybe some people couls read a post and reply accordingly rather than jump to conclusions based on assumptions?

A dog barks for a reason - find out what that reason is and you can usually stop the barking.

Prevent the dog from physically barking and you set yourself up for all sorts of other unwanted behaviours from licking (lick granulomas) to pacing, scratching at doors, aggression etc.

What studying has your friend done? What bodies is she a member of?

What if said Dog barks all day long while you are at work (if you leave your dog at home) driving the neighbours crazy?

and all of us dog owners are so lucky to be able to work max 2 hours per day (3rd hour is for commuting and 4th for shopping/other stuff need to be done outside of home).
oh, that would be sooooo pleasant...

OK, I got carried away by my dreams. coming back to reality: it's quite useful to teach a dog to stay at home longer, if needed and generally cope with being alone.

but the question was about husher: no, I haven't used one, I've actually never seen one before now.
but I'm posting here to notice that the calming band mentioned above is NOT an equivalent of husher. I mean I know Sarabe didn't mean it, but I have an impression that Gettingready understood it that way.

all products manufactured by Mekuti are not meant to suppress any behaviours but to help a dog to calm down, therefore calming bands touch dog's face very gently and do not stop him/her from barking. the idea is based on the discovery that some dogs (it doesn't work for all dogs obviously) calm down when they feel this slight pressure on their muzzle. I knew a dog on whom a simple halti had this effect. she was wearing halti when off lead just because it kept her more relaxed - on that dog it worked miraculously. but usually the effect is not that significant.

It's a perfectly reasonably assumption to make, that you would be considering using this product on your own dog given that you have previously posted about a barking issue. The only alternative is that you initiated a debate about a device knowing you were inviting controversy and I don't believe that of you.
