I got the letter early this year. Massive increase from £5 to £15, so firstly asked them to put it back or I leave. They offered £7.50 for 2 months, said no, then £7.50 for 6 months. Requested my MAC code, received it within the hour and phoned up Sky. As a Sky customer you get the basic package free but you have to pay install fee (though weirdly you set it up yourself). Offer at the time was 6 months free on the £10 per month package with no install fee. Therefore over the year it will cost me £5 per month for next 12 months. Switched over no problem. In 12 months I'll move it to Sky's £5 or free package with no charge.

I too have been with Tiscali for years and I haven't had a letter.
But I contacted them as a result of all this publicity and they looked at my account and said there's no reason that I should get one.

So ... it seems that not all Tiscali customers are in for this treatment.
Can't explain why I am (or am not) special, and they wouldn't tell me.

similar here, they said i was not affected, think it is to do with whether you are on an LLU package

Because you may already be LLU'd. They want to get rid of non-LLU customers, because the margins on them are much lower. So they either want to LLU you or hike your rates on non-LLU in the hope that you'll either leave, or at least they'll increase their margins if you don't.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I also rang them to request a MAC code and was told the same as you. My package will not alter at all so why do I want to leave? The operater asked me 3 times why I wanted to leave, I told him it was personal preference he did finally request a MAC code for me which has since arrived.
I am now looking for a new provider.

LLU = Local Loop Unbundling.........basically means they have their own equipment in a BT exchange and allows them to do broadband a bit cheaper.....

You dont always have to go with supplier for telephone either

I use aquiss using C&W LLU 20Mbps broadband (I get 16Mbps), BT for line rental and Onetel for phone CPS soon to be Primus

I pay £28 for broadband unlimited and this is buisness broadband, 20.1 contention

Further to my last post it just gets worse it seems. We bit the bullet and 'upgraded'. I use the term like that because we were being asked to pay more for the only package that would offer unlimited usage and any time calls (what we had before the take over and which no one else could match on price). This was the 'special' TV bundle only available to the existing Tiscali customers which also incurred a one off £30 installation charge.

Within 1 day of our installation we check the website and Talk Talk have changed their pro package to one which we wanted in the first place but they would not give us at the time. So this was the trick was it? Get people to sign up to a more expensive TV package (which takes priority over and shares your internet bandwidth and doesn't offer anything worthwhile above Sky1 & 2 btw) So if we want to change package within the 30 day trial now it was a waste of £30 installation charge it seems. We will find out the truth tomorrow when we phone them....

Just spent 30 mins talking to various departments. One department (don't remember which as I was fuming) said that we are 'not allowed' to cancel within thirty days even though it says this on their website and that is what we were told when we signed up:
    http://www.talktalk.co.uk/legal/30-day-trial/

    Bold faced lie.

After much wrangling got through to another department and they said that we can cancel but they won't just cancel the TV part of the bundle and leave you with 'any time calls and broadband' because of the way the service is delivered at the exchange. The only way is to cancel the whole of the existing contract and sign up as new Talk Talk customers and get a new telephone number as the Tiscali TV service at the exchange is separate to Talk Talk. What the bloody hell was the takeover for then if not to 'align' both services? :wall: It seems we are trapped for now as we want to keep our existing number :(

Part of the problem is that you are never sure with the new amalgamated website which terms and conditions you signed up with unless you printed them out there and then as information keeps disappearing or is changed. The special TV related package for being Tiscali customers we got for example, is no longer viewable from inside our account it seems. Outside your account you can only see packages for new and existing Talk Talk customers. There are also more terms and conditions at the bottom of the package. Absolutely bonkers and confusing
