Tiscali / Talk Talk Price Hike

My monthly bill has just risen by over 50% without warning.
Have been with Tiscali for 5 years on the same contract and have not changed a thing. Obviously Talk Talk now own Tiscali but how can they suddenly change a contract amount without me changing anything?
BTW - It is not for going over my download limit before that is suggested.

did you not get the dreaded letter informing you about their upgrade/alignment? I was offered less for more money and am on my way out - except I think that they've just broken the law by telling me they can't give me a MAC code - calling ofcom tomorrow.
I think the problem is that once you're out of the initial contract (as I was) sadly they CAN up the price unless you vote with your feet."When I get a little money I buy books; and if any is left I buy food and clothes" - Erasmus0 -

This take over has been a joke. I am a member of TalkTalk (formerly Tiscali) too. They said that they would be 'improving the service for everyone'. They have been sending out these letters for a while now. They are basically changing the terms of your contract which is legal as long as they get your agreement. Mine said that unless I objected (ie left or signed up for another package) they were going to 'align' me. By this they mean I will have to pay more and have a 40GB per month cap and sign up for an 18 month contract. So much for 'digital Britain'!
So where is the improvement here? :wall:To get an equivalent service to my old Tiscali one (anytime national calls, unlimited up to 8Mb, inclusive of line rental) the only option is to take the more expensive TV package, which I don't want, be locked in for 18 months and pay an £30 installation charge too!
Looked at other ISPs, and of the ones that do offer the 3 things I had before, and don't have crazy traffic management and caps, none do a reasonable price (<£30) This sucks.0 -
Have not got a thing!!!!
When did these go out?0 -
Am on the phone to them now and apparently the letter went out in november0

These people are clowns.
Am gone from Talk Talk0 -
I got my notification letter in November and then a "here's the new "improved" package, do nothing if you want to stay with us in February with a "decide by date" of late March. I'm off to BT and O2."When I get a little money I buy books; and if any is left I buy food and clothes" - Erasmus0

See... i got a letter in January...
but my subscription's only gone up be a couple of pounds.. i dont have to sign into a new contract (if i want to i get a £20 amazon voucher!) and instead of just having weekend calls... i get evening and weekend! (still on 8Mb broadband)
It seems that I may be a winner in the talk talk takeover fiasco! tho it seems odd that they're offering different people different deals!0 -
I was with Tiscali for years, and am now with Talktalk, and haven't heard a thing yet:eek::eek:"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

I too have been with Tiscali for years and I haven't had a letter.
But I contacted them as a result of all this publicity and they looked at my account and said there's no reason that I should get one.
So ... it seems that not all Tiscali customers are in for this treatment.
Can't explain why I am (or am not) special, and they wouldn't tell me.0
