Bank will not hand over late mother's money

Easiest thing to do is send an email to the FSA email complaint.info@financial-ombudsman.org.uk and then cc Barclays at: Customer.relations@barclays.com
It's amazing how detailing what happened & what the problems are to the Ombudsman can result in action within an hour by the bank or insurance company."This is a forum - not a support group. We do not "owe" anyone unconditional acceptance of their opinions."0 -
There must be a far quicker way of paying this money into your account than it taking 5 days. That is totally appalling!
I thought our bank was incompetent when they managed to 'temporarily lose' our last house deposit which was over £120k. Didn't even get an apology and then they wanted to charge us for the chaps fee to transfer it to our solicitor as it then needed to be done in such a hurry.0 -
Barclays really are in a class of their own here. Since my husband died, they have sent a letter addressed to "Mr Deceased", told me on the phone that I needed "power of eternity" (their words not mine) to talk about his account - umm, no he's dead, POA not applicable. They have sent a paying in bok in my husbands name for his current account but addressed it to me (it was never a joint account), and as a grand finale, when I redeemed the mortgage with the insurance money, despite them telling me the amount to pay, they then sent a letter to my dead husband telling him there was a penny still outstanding.
I will be eternally grateful that I kept my own bank account running in my own name, so that I was able to close down all accounts that we held with Barclays. I never want to have to go near them ever again!0 -
That is shockingly disgraceful.
I will state for a third time - Barclays are mad.
I am happy to add incompetent too.0 -
i havent read the whole thread but i sympathise, i think barclays must be the most incompetent lot there is
we applied for a mortgage last january/feb time, we didnt move until June and that was hampererd at every single stage due to their incompetence, phone calls went unanswered, call backs never materialised, documents were lost then found
come the weeks to completion (which had to be put back time and time again because of them), we had to take time off work to physically hand in documents which they had previously lost then found (then lost again), one advisor telling us one thing, another telling us another
they also told us they dont have internal dialling from their branches, they also could not email internally int he mortgage department apparently
we complained many times in writing. after moving in, we got a letter saying they were investigating our complaint!! this was an urgent complaint done prior to completion because we needed certain things looked at in order to complete in time (this we had to do ourselves by taking time off work and standing in the branch for hours)
we are now 8 months after moving and no response has ever been made to us about our complaint
it make me laugh when people say that the public services should be more like private ones,,,, what like barclays????0 -

Barclays took originals of the death certificate, grant of probate - fair enough - but the copies of utility bills, bank statements, driving licences...not to mention signatures over and over again. And having to present ourselves several times...
We began to feel like criminals.
But what I cannot get to grips with is that I have received letters from them acknowledging my mother's death...and then telling me only she can access the new account the money has been put into!
Like I said before - they are mad.
Sorry I didnt see that you had done all that , Oddly the Abbey National let him withdraw far more with just a copy of the will and death certifivate
Sorry I didnt see that you had done all that , oddlyVuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -

That is absolutely disgusting. Please complain. I am outraged on yours and the OP's behalf. This is the last thing either of you need to deal with.
I'm up for a sleepover :cool:Current debt: M&S £0(£2K) , Tesco £0 (£1.5K), Car loan 6K (paid off!) Barclaycard £1.5K (interest free for 18 months)0 -

'Power of Eternity'! Good grief, obviously can't get the staff. Too busy counting their bonuses.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
