  • Can I just say, although we are all critical of banks, CCs etc, I would like to mention something nice. I mentioned earlier in the thread that I support families of murder victims and as a result of a death, I had to write to Barclaycard to try & sort out how to deal with his debt. As a result of the the death, he is unable to work and I asked what I needed to get in place so that he could deal with his debt. Did make them aware that I knew of the Data Protection Act, which I am bound by also and was simply looking for guidance to pass on. A few days later got a phone call from someone who was clearly further up the food chain and was very pleasantly surprised to be told that there are times when the DPA needs to be thrown out the window and this was one of them and they were writing off his debt. She was actually more concerned about him understanding the letter and could they write via me. Well, no prizes for guessing the answer. It may have helped that the death got national media coverage, but well done that woman, alot of brownie points for her.

Well done and great result for you,

Shame though that one right does not fix 10,000 wrongs and Barclays are (fact) the worse banking institution I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with, and I speak to some high up people there and even when I throw the facts proving they are wrong at them, they try and argue with me.

As I say, one good turn does not change the general consensus i'm afraid - BUT I am pleased at your result, which obviously allowed the bereaved, to grieve and not worry about the debt.

Final point, check the letter closely - writing it off and writing off against the estate is two different things, sorry that is the scepticism in me ;)
