Just been sent this. Isn't it funny how life has changed over the years:

    Guess What This Is?

Hint: picture was taken in 1956...

It's a hard disk drive back in 1956... with 5 MB of storage. In September 1956 IBM launched the 305 RAMAC, the first 'SUPER' computer with a hard disk drive (HDD). The HDD weighed over a ton and stored a 'whopping' 5 MB of data.

Do you appreciate your 8 GB memory stick a little more now?

..... or even this 32Gb MicroSD card?

But being a Luddite it is all still Greek to me!!! Enjoy.

    Hi SW,

Sorry to hear that you are in miserablemoodom! I know it is easy for people to just say "snap out of it" - but please try to concentrate on the very positive things you have done for people on here. Not just me - although you have helped me enormously - but you have made such good progress with Jasperconran.

    Chin up!!!

    Hiya Pixie

Ok, i've had a chance to think (plus I spoke with fermi) and being honest I think what I originally advised would still be perfectly acceptable. Let me explain, being you're no doubt worried about the delay etc.... :o

George kindly PM'd me last night suggesting I reconsider the advice given as he felt there could be legal implications of using an older cards available credit to "buy out" the newer (enforceable cards) debt, which is what I originally proposed; and still do propose you do.

I think George felt that it could be classified as deceptive measures - I don't quite agree that this would constitute deception nor would it be classed as fraud - however there is a process that needs to be followed, and so long as you're happy to proceed based on the above - let me know and i'll confirm what needs to be done, although it will involve a wee bit of messing about.....

I'd also like to point out I am not saying George was incorrect, he was spot on for noticing a possible flaw in my advice, however there is a path to follow and so long as you follow it, then you'll be just fine. Obviously we may have differing opinions, but then George is the sensible one here - I just happen to fight within the boundaries of the legal system and understand the implications of the CCA (1974) so feel confident it can be sorted for you, easily enough - if this is what you want.....

I will not allow you to break any laws on behalf of any advice I give.

Soooo, decisions decisions..... I await your response :D:D

    Hi Niddy

Thank you for the time and effort you are putting into looking at my debts.

I must admit that I haven't been concentrating on my job applications as much as I should have because I've kept popping back on here, and the unenforceabitlity thread, to see if there was any news from you. :o

If you feel confident that my debts could be sorted by going down the unenforceability path, then I have every confidence in you!

One possible snag I mentioned yesterday is that I wrote to most of my creditors informing them that I couldn't afford the minimum payments and I signed the letters myself. :( I didn't know any better then and thought that I was doing the right thing by keeping them informed.

You know that I was thinking very seriously about bankruptcy and was advised to follow that path by one of the debt charities. Unlike Ann, I rent my house so don't have that worry hanging over me. Either way, my credit rating is going up in flames, along with all the fantastic deals I had!!!:D

Looking forward to hearing from you.

I didn't picture you as the scary dentist (Laurence Olivier) in Marathon Man Pixiechick. Now we will have to tread very carefully in case we upset you and you appear with a pair of pliers!!!!

I wont stick the picture in!!!!

Oh SW - I wasn't the dentist!!! Don't think I'd be in such a financial mess if I was!!! I was just a lowly dental nurse/receptionist.

    Hiya

So you're happy to go with it then? If so, i'll amend your PM obscuring personal details and list your cards and then work through each one advising you what to do....

It will be complicated in area's so feel free to ask questions as you see fit - make sure you're totally happy with the plan and then you need to crack-on and get the ball in motion.

I'll be back later, around 7pm with more - we'll chat then if you're around? If not i'll post what to do and then you just need to come and respond.....

Chin Up - worry not, things will be clearer soon and you'll feel a weight lifted within the month. :p

Ann, do you want this doing on here or over on my UE thread? I will keep things separate - its up to you if you want to keep tabs here or on my thread? :D Whatever you say, we'll work to - after all, this is your gossip column now isn't it :rotfl:
    :o 2010 - year of the troll :o

    Thanks Niddy.

I'll let Ann decide about the thread. I'm just off to make my tea, then watch Eggheads and Great British Menu, but I'll be around after that.

PixieChick, i had read something along similar lines of what NID was suggesting a couple of years ago and it wasn't met with much enthusiasm. Can't find the discussion now but thought i'd flag it up to NID.

At the time, people had been talking about the impact of deception and that is no longer an issue as the courts have removed this legal argument with the 2006 Fraud Act (i think). This act also clearly defines what is and isn't fraud - what NID is suggesting would not fall into this category.

So it looks like you may be able to go down this route. Sorry about causing a delay, but i wanted to make sure everything checked out okay. I've not looked in detail into these arguments so wasn't sure. Hopefully we'll soon get you forgetting about bankruptcy and you'll be quite happy and debt free in your new job.

    Thanks George.

There wasn't much of a delay, and it's better to make sure it's all above board. Just so grateful for all the help. :)

I really would not want to be liable for prosecution for fraud as that would be the end of my career. Worrying a little bit now...
