Frightened about my future

However, I may be able to save a little bit of money - my extravagant days of keeping up appearances are well and truly over! - to get part of the house professionally decorated and perhaps the worst offender of the heaters replaced. In the meantime, I am concentrating on decluttering the house - and putting as much as possible on Ebay.
Hi Mouseann, glad you're feeling more positive - do keep posting, especially when you're feeling low. We'll make sure you don't stay that way for long
RE; the decorating - do you need to have it done "professionally"? Are you able to do it yourself - perhaps with help from your son or a friend? It would save a considerable amount and I'm sure with patience you could do just as good a job.....
Keep going with Ebay, and Amazon if you have books, DVDs etc - it's even easier as you don't have the faff of photographing everything.0 -
Hi all, and especially never-in-doubt,
Will get the letters sent off today and report back.
Only query - I am still waiting to get my new bank sorted out so I am guessing that it might be as well not to approach HSBC/First Direct until I have managed to get what little money I have out of my bank account transferred. My other concern is how quickly it will take the state pension and occupational pension people to make the change, as I suspect FD will grab what they can as soon as it hits my account.
Have opened a new account with the Co-op and they have confirmed that it has been accepted and am just waiting for the paperwork. Obviously, I need the new account details before I can get the pensions transferred, but don't want FD to get any idea about it - yet!
Thanks again for all the practical help and supportive comments. I feel as if I have found a whole new set of friends and family!"What does not kill me makes me stronger". Frederich Nietzsche, 1844-1900.0 -

Hiya
You're welcome - you'll see a difference in the coming weeks..... when they reply - let me know what they say and i'll get them off your back once and for all..... deal with one at a time and they will get sorted...
Ok, regards to your current banking - do not CCA them until you have got the new account sorted.... who are you applying to? It'd have to be someone neutral, maybe Coventry or Co-Op.....
Ahh sorry, just seen it was the co-op lol.... ok, when that is open then you change all the first direct and hsbc stuff to it and then CCA them as well. I suspect of all the debts, these will be enforceable as they generally are (thus I bank with HSBC as they are the best bank - by a mile)....
Now enjoy your weekend and sit back with a nice glass of whatever and stop worrying, send the CCA request and things will start - bear in mind NO PHONE CHATS! You still never answered me about phone! :rotfl:2010 - year of the troll

Requesting a copy of the CCA should not cause the bank to offset funds - this only happens when you miss payments. I'm not sure if there are some monies they are not allowed to offset (benefit/pensions). Might be an idea to ask the nationaldebtline if this is protected if nobody here can advise.
Hopefully you won't have any problems with this though.
Also make sure you don't use the cards again - if you are disputing that you owe money on them then you shouldn't be using them. After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91

Hi Mousann, apologies I only time to scan through the posts very quickly before I return from lunch (!) I'm happy to see that you are requesting the CCA however have you SAR'd the banks to get a list of all charges on your credit cards WITH 8% interest going back 6 years?
Will check back later.0 -
Hi
I am so pleased mouseann is talking to Niddy - I tried to point her in his direction when she first posted at the beginning of March
Hopefully Niddy will slay the dragons that think they hold her to ransom to pay these debts. Wishing her many restful nights and a wonderful retirement.NR [STRIKE]£5542[/STRIKE]£2771 BC [STRIKE]£7987[/STRIKE]£7700 BC [STRIKE]£3000[/STRIKE]£5100 Cat1 Pd Cat2 Pd Ulstr [STRIKE]£3400[/STRIKE]£3070 TSB [STRIKE]£4851[/STRIKE]£4400 MBNA [STRIKE]£7700[/STRIKE]£3887 NWst [STRIKE]£950[/STRIKE] £700 Hfx [STRIKE]£10097[/STRIKE]£10050 Asda [STRIKE]£398[/STRIKE] £315 HFX1 Pd Hfx2 [STRIKE]£3133[/STRIKE] £3000

Sorry not to have replied re the phone line,
Am going to try "toughing it out" with the same phone number, mainly because of people with whom I have little regular contact trying to reach me. I will just see how it goes - at least I will have a little idea of how often they will phone. But I promise that I won't engage them in any lengthy chats!
Picking up on your remark re HSBC and enforceability - is this because they are more efficient? Does this mean that they can get a court order - or will they let me reach an agreement? I have been with FD for over 20 years and have always found them great to deal with.
Am going to get to work on the letters today and will report in as soon as I hear anything.
Thanks for the advice re the cards, George. I did stop using them weeks ago!"What does not kill me makes me stronger". Frederich Nietzsche, 1844-1900.0 -
Thanks Planning_ahead,
I should have tried to contact the dragon slayer much earier, I agree!"What does not kill me makes me stronger". Frederich Nietzsche, 1844-1900.0 -
Hi jdx,
Not sure how SAR works - but I would contest that the interest rates over the last few years have increased dramatically! Some are in the region of over 25% APR - which I consider to be extortionate given the low interest rate currently in operation."What does not kill me makes me stronger". Don't apologise:) When you first posted you were not in the right place to take everything in.....so much information being hurled at you and you in panic mode about work and debt levels.
I am just so very glad you are now taking things in and getting the invaluable support you need.
Take care and good luck with the forthcoming fights:beer:
