Like what? You buy the phone, you pay the contract. You don't need to pay another penny if you don't want to.

I'd agree, but Palm have always had more of a community following, as opposed to Apple's blindly loyal customer-base, and let's face it, they need to have a better attitude given what they need to do to catch up and save the company. I don't like Apple's control on what you can do with it, and what they charge for it, but it's their cash-cow and they're making a shed load of money from it so why wouldn't they?

I guess the earlier models didn't have the hardware to do it then. You can now record video with a couple of apps on 2G phones but think they rely on taking multiple stills rather than true video. Palm was able to include the hardware from the start but it took them months to get the OS to support it.

Horses for courses. If you're happy with the Pre, then enjoy it. You're overdoing the 'new hardware instead of OS' though - the 3.0 update was applied to 2G phones IIRC, albeit again hardware limitations meant no MMS.

the ipad is not a phone, it is a product in an entirely different category. plus, im sure they can cope with developing and marketing more than one device at the same time.
