I sent 2 letter last Monday (10th) first class to scotland, they both arrived this tues (18th), I got sent a parcel first class yesterday pm, arrived this morning, I sent a first class parcel, it took almost 4 weeks, I had already made the claim and had to cancel it - basically, unless as someone said you pay for next day delivery, Royal Mail delivery can be anyones guess. Hope it turns up soon for you, otherwise you will have to wait 15 days and the SENDER has to make the claim, not yourself.

Typing as you posted - sorry.

If you paid via paypal, the easiest thing to do would be to file a complaint saying the item was not delivered. If the seller has proof of posting, then he will not get into trouble with paypal as you both would be covered under paypal's buyer and seller protection policy. That way, you will get your money back and will not have to waste time chasing up the package.

In my experience, whenever i have a missing package problem with something i've sold, i dont just send the posting receipt to the buyer and wash my hands off the problem. I always chase it up and make sure the buyer receives the goods he/she paid for or gets a full refund. After all its the sellers obligation to make sure the goods are delivered (not just dispatched).

And paypal covers sellers as long as he posts to a confirmed address and use a recorded form of delivery. If a seller decides not to abide by these two paypal rules...then its his risk and not the buyers.

All this is only if you used paypal...

i sent a packet to enfield on the 11th of july. it was signed for on the 12th. the signature is not that of the person i sent it to although the printed name is his name. it was addressed correctly and he is the only one at that address, and was at home at the delivery time. i have already sent a claim form stating that the package has been stolen (i was careful not to accuse the postie) but someone has deffo nicked it.

The seller would not be covered with the seller protection because you have to send everything special delivery as you have to give a tracking number to be eligible for that.

Paypal don't even recognise recorded delivery as a trackabe method.

Yes, proof of posting as required by paypal. If a seller accepts paypal as a payment method, then its his responsibility to make sure that he uses a delivery method acceptable to paypal ( in case something goes wrong). Not the buyers responsibility i afraid..

In my 5 years of trading only 3 items have gone missing in the post. so when a seller accepts paypal (like i do) and sends an item via a method not recommended by paypal (as its not always possible to charge customers extra for postage, but as a seller i still want to offer my customers the conveniance of paypal), it is the seller who takes a calculated risk. So if something goes wrong its the seller who has to do all the chasing up with Royal Mail...not the buyer.

I've had first class posted packages from ebay take 7 working days to arrive before, stamped by the post office and everything with the date so seller told the truth, typical of Royal Mail nowadays i think!
