Vodafone iPhone reception issues

Does anyone have any problems with the reception of iPhone on Vodafone?

My area on their coverage map is shown as excellent 2G and 3G coverage, yet I virtually never get a signal....anywhere.

They have a whole forum discussion on this, but MoneySavingExpert wont let me post a URL (being a newbie I think)! The vodafone e-forum topic number is 50704

If this is a proper problem with the iPhone and the Vodafone network then why are they still selling it?

It's a problem with all the networks I've used it on, iPhone will consistently show a lower level of signal, than another phone on the same network....Hence why I went back to a Blackberry Bold.

The signal strength as shown by the phone's meter is the phone's view of how strong the signal is versus the maximum and minimum signal strengths it recognizes. It is not a fair comparison of reception between different phones, when you are comparing say 4 bars out of 5 versus 5 bars out of 5.

Where it really matters is in low signal areas, and making calls while in a moving vehicle. How good a phone is signal wise is then basically how well it holds on to a connection before it drops it. Or whether it gets a faint signal where other handsets using the same network do not get one at all.

Does the signal level change depending on how you hold it by any chance?

The antenna is located at the bottom of the phone, so keeping that uncovered as best you can should help.
  • Vodafone is an absolute JOKE! I bought the 3gs over a week ago and have no signal, no internet and I live in London. I have been given stupid advice ober the phone and have been fobbed off left right and centre. Avoid this company they are scum. Have been told no returns for store purchases. How can this be legal?

i have had the 3gs for 2 months now and the signal is no better than my old n96 so i thought as when i visited my parents where i lived only a few months ago i could not get reception anywhere in the house but my n96 got reception everywhere in it. From other sites it does look as if its is the iPhone and not the network that is the problem

I’ve recently got an iphone and before that had an HTC and nokia – always on Vodafone.

I get terrible coverage with my iphone and have compared my old phones with the iphone to be sure there was a difference. In many cases I just get ‘no service’ in places in my house where I have 5 bars on my HTC/nokia.

Worryingly, I got a sales call from voda, and the sales person let slip that there is an issue with the iphone on the voda network.

    Has anyone else heard this?

I’d be VERY concerned if this was a known compatibility issue between Voda and the iphone and Voda were keeping quiet.

As an aside, Voda are also changing the to/from dates for billing their current customers which is a really sneaky way of getting an extra chunk of money off everyone, just by shuffling the billing dates.

Voda used to be the no.1 provider in the uk, now they are no. 3. It’s these kind of things that will push them further down… and in the process, we all lose out.

Hardly a fair comment, theyre only third due to the merger of orange and t-mobile, 2nd (if merger never happened) in the UK is very respectable, let alone 2nd on the world! Only china mobile beats them so they must be doing something right. Hardly call that them losing out.
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

iPhones are dreadful for signal. It's not just limited to the UK. In the US they have the same issues too. Be unfair to blame Vodafone. I had one on O2 I was allowed to swap it when a change in the settings wasn't helping out for another 3GS.

This is most probably a handset problem. According to yday's The Independant there will be a new iPhone, showcased on the 7th June.
  • I purchased a iphone 3gs on Vodafone business tarrif. In the first 14 days i reported poor or no coverage in major towns and cities, the handset was replaced the following day.

A few days on and still the same problem, Vodafone sent me to a local store for a new sim 14 hours later still the same problem, and now another new handset being replaced ( 3 handsets in 30 days).

Tried to cancel my contract but they are not having anything, but they will keep on replacing the handset week after week until "they find one that wortks"

    Any ideas anyone?
