Pothole Bust Wheel - Council Claim?

So did everybody else driving along this road get damaged tyres /wheels?
well, i didn't stop and ask, but i would expect so. When i went to get my tyre changed there was a gentleman in their expressing a similar story. When i rang my little local gararge to ask a little advice he advised he had 2 local cars in at the moment with similar damage (unsure what specific road they were damaged on)
If i were to flag down the drivers and ask i would expect i'm not the only one who has had damage. I understand that a great deal of roads are bad at the moment, but the only repair work i have seen loclly were on roads which had one or two holes (although in afluent area's)
I can't afford the £70 to fix my car, and i dont see why i should when the council are legally responsible for the state of our roads. My reporting this only makes the fact that they have failed to act worse.
Yes i know there was a problem, yes i have reported it and yes i continued to use the road due to lack of other options but on the flip side, yes the council are aware of the problem, no they have not addressed the problem, no they have not contacted me after reporting the problem and yes they are allowinf drivers (some who may not know the condition of the road) to drive down the road making it worse as the holes obviously beome bigger/deeper.
You may not all agree with this, but it's how i feelI get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0 -
It could be argued that it would be reasonable to expect a major fault with the road to be fixed (even temporarily if necessary).Kurtis_Blue wrote: »Cant see how it would go in your favour, it would go in some one elses favour who was unaware.0 -

Absolutely, the very least they could have marked it with yellow spray etc. and if I damaged my car I would be a little miffed.
But if I was previously aware and involved to such an extent to have reported it twice I would only blame myself.
At present the majority of roads (around here) are terrible there is only so much the councils can do in the limited time/resources, we must take on some of that responsablity and drive aware of this new increased hazard.0 -

i was aware of the hazard and do my best to avoid it or drive very slow over it. but on this occasion neither helped. i must have caught it wrong and there went my tyre.
I do understand the roads are bad everywhere, but i pay road tax, and if the council do not have enough money/resources to fix these issues this is not my fault. Nor is it my fault that even taking extra care knowing of the danager my car was damaged, and had the road not been in the condition it is in, it's likley i would not have sustained any damage at all.
The only road repair i have seen in my area is the resurfacing of a road with very minor damage and a few pot holes which were very deep filled in temporary with a bit of tar. I do not believe the council are taking enough responsibility or being proactive in order to repair the roads as fast and as best they can.I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0 -
That wasn't really aimed at you Sarah, I'm not out to rub your nose in it.0

Sorry, just a little mad. Actually had my car broken into last week as well, so this really topped off my car bill for the fortnight lol (poor thing has gained a few war wounds in the last few weeks)
My local council are a bit rubbish in general whenever i've needed to report anything so, i'm in the general opinion that their efforts to get all the roads sorted are pretty limitedI get what i want. I've just had to have my tracking re-set after daring to go out on the diabilical potholed roads. Apparently tyres have also sustained damage and require replacing.
My local Central Tyres depot are (were?) offering a 30 day guarantee on new tyres that if damaged and could not be repaired would be replaced free. When I joked with the manager about sending my bill to the council he said they had "about 60 tyres out the back" damaged by potholes. He was not a happy man................!0 -
Further to my last post I have now been back to Central Tyres for two new tyres. They offer insurance covering damage, including punctures, for a year, on a sliding scale depending on the cost of the tyre.
Example premium £4.82 for a tyre costing £41 to £50.99.
Seems a good deal when motoring is currently on cart tracks.......
Conversation in the busy waiting room bristling with anecdotes about pothole damage...!0 -
