I have a huge bag of more than a year old mobile bills, credit card bills, receipts etc for burning, and manuals for things we no longer own are in the recycling.

There is now room in the paperwork drawers for me to sort the outstanding filing.

Oooh I like this idea! I'm going to have to start tomorrow though as I've only just noticed the thread. Actually I'm not too bad at hoarding stuff any more - comes with renting and not wanting to keep shifting unwanted carp around from house to house!

Also paperish need to make a will, myself and hubby realised yesterday whilst talking that we hadn't sorted out benefactors re pensions, life insurance and everything really....this needs sorting asap. Hubby presumed his stuff (and vice versa from my side) would go to me if anything happens but this isn't necessarily the case as my Dad explained.
It's worth remembering that you don't want to go into too much detail as the more there is, the more the tax man starts wondering about the value of your estate. So keep it simple... e.g. your OH can be your sole beneficiary or you can split it with your DDs, but you don't want to go into minute detail (e.g. leave specifics to OH and the remainder to be split equally between your DDs... any personal bequests of items rather than cash can always be made in a letter to the executor).

Well done ALL of you on the decluttering. I'm at work... which is a pity as I could really do with joining this challenge...

Yey you are all doing so well - especially finding cheques - I hope that happens here!

    I've started DS's box:
Got rid of loads of it and sorted rest into 3 piles
sporting newspaper clipping - now stuck in the scrap book
Primary school stuff (he is in Yr11 and 16 this week) smallish pile left to sort and scrap book
Secondary school stuff - less interesting to me so will check if he wants any of it when he comes home.

DS2's box definitely being left until next week.

I've found the school photos and put them in a scrapbook (and dated them!)
Started sorting through various papers and recycling them!

We do too :o Mind you, we don't have anything to leave, but we do need to make provision about guardianship of the children. Trouble is we don't have any money to pay a lawyer to do a will. :(

I have found old cheque book stubs from 1999, paying in books going back to 98.

And I thought I was organised. The phone bills only went back to 2000:)

Thinking about tomorrow already..... I have started to make a rag rug using old fleece jumpers and jackets. I only use items that are too far gone or outdated to be sold on ebay or in charity shops. If anyone has any they don't want I will pay postage to take them from you.

ETA Now off to sort instruction books etc. Thank you, to whoever mentioned it.

Well done for those of you thinking about wills - yes we need to too!

DS has sorted though his old school books and got rid of loads

I need about 30 minutes more to finish the job and as it is across the kitchen table sooner rather than later will be required.
