I don't often ebay but I do run a small online shop and we get some very similar things. The most frequent is somebody puts an order through and selects 2nd class post (which we say can take up to 5 days, just to be safe) and then call or email to say they need it in 2 days time at the latest.
The best one was only 2 weeks ago, a lady placed an order late on Friday night and selected 2nd class post then emailed on Tuesday asking why it wasn't there. I replied stating that because the order was placed on Friday it was dispatched Monday and by 2nd class post as she had selected which can take up to 5 working days. The customer responded by saying that 2nd class post takes 2 days and Saturday is now a working day so her order should have been dispatched over the weekend. :wall:
I no longer give customers the choice of postal service - everything goes how I want it to - either first class, courier, or special. Tracking and Insurance is for my benefit and security, not the customers. I manage my own risk and margins and do not let others dictate to me, with the only exception is at Christmas where I place the option for next day special delivery on all items. Even then I get people who pay for Sellers Standard Rate, then let me know that they need it ASAP.
I feel it gives a less ambiguous message, and by removing multiple choices means there are slightly less possible issues that can arise.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -
buyers now demand ridicoulous speed of delivery because ebay have created an environment where buyers are told it is reasonable to demand such things.
the introduction of dsr's elevated the situation as from that point on buyers had an even more effective, double barrelled way of making sure sellers met their high demands.
i remember when i started as a seller back 2007 i used to state 14 days, yes 14 days! for delivery and 99% of buyers were happy to accept, it wasn't uncommon on ebay back then because many of us were dropshipping from the far east.
Nowdays i obviously don't dropship as it's a minefield and post all items either same day or next day.
While some buyers are a little over bearing and ridicoulous in their expectations i'd say this is one area where ebay have made a positive differance to the site.
While they may have created a few monsters service levels are now in general alot higher which makes the buying experience alot better and in line with the levels of service offered by other online retail platforms.0 -
When I was a business seller on Ebay I used to offer customers a choice of first or second class postage. Most would opt for the second class as it was cheaper but there would always be some that would expect to pay second class postage and recieve their item the next day.
I soon realised that no matter what you do , some buyers will always expect more. Many thanks to the wonderful staff at Birmingham Childrens Hospital caring for my tiny and very poorly grandson who was born at 29 weeks. Thanks to them he is getting a little stronger every day.:A:A:A0 -
I sold something on a BIN , buyer paid promptly, but postage quoted was for the UK (they live in Dublin) I emailed them thanked them for payment, but stated they hadn't paid enough, told them the balance & asked them to pay it additionally to me or cancel their original payment & I would sent them the correct invoice.
Well a few days passed & no word from them, I returned the paypal payment & noted that incorrect postage had been paid, sent them a new invoice & a polite note.
They finally got in touch to say 'As you have returned my payment I will not be paying for the item'
Gave up in the end & have reported them as a non payer some people, the auction clearly stated postage was uk only.
Can't work out which bit of it they didn;t understand.0 -

If you sell overseas just put the European postage in the relevant drop down postage boxes when you list your items, the invoice then automatically picks up their correct postage and avoids a lot of messing around.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I offer "free" P&P on all my BIN/BO and only have one option, cost dependent, on auctions.
I post everything within 24 hrs of payment and it will only go either 1st Recorded and SD.
The tracking numbers are always entered into paypal and an email sent to the buyer to let them know it's on its way.
My 12 month DSR for dispatch, on over 400 transactions, is 4.95 so something is working.Terms & Conditions Apply0 -
Technically you should be all right. If they admit that parcel turns up, then they pay again if they have been refunded. If they deny receiving it, then you claim from RM. Problem is that things don't often turn out as they should do.thriftymanc wrote: »Unbelievable, I get home from work today to find that the buyer's opened a flipping Paypal claim against me. Is that even allowed? It was posted three working days ago. Isn't there some kind of minimum time on these things? Paypal can see when the buyer paid, surely they shouldn't be allowed to open a claim for at least a week... ok, so that would still be tomorrow in my case. But... just... argh! So angry! Royal Mail won't even let me do a claim with them for a couple of weeks... what if the item turns up after I refund? Can I still claim from Royal Mail? Or am I going to be out of pocket again?
What is happening to the English Language? These are not isolated, but repeated every day.
'Definate', 'Aswell', 'Rediculous', 'Payed'...and the best of all 'Could Of'. How can anyone think that 'Could Of' can actually mean anything. You may as well write 'Could Zebra' for all the sense it makes.0 -
Expect a bollocking then, it's against ebay's rules to open a strike on someone that actually paid (it's also against them to open an NPB on someone that did a chargeback).meandmaboy wrote: »Gave up in the end & have reported them as a non payer
Also, the buyer will be able to put the payment's transaction ID into the NPB dispute, so they won't get a strike.Back on MSE after a 5 year hiatus.
