Ebico billing question

Lee - whats the issue with setting up a monthly direct debit / standing order of £50 a month into a separate account to cover your bills? Or better yet, set a DD up with the utility company, you really can save a mint doing it this way and as long as you keep them updated with meter readings you will never get an estimated bill, meaning you are almost PAYG. I would think it would cost you a hell of a lot more to ride/drive to the post office, park / pay bus fare, then come all the way home again on top of your more expensive tarriff! And dual fuel (both fuels from same supplier) gives you a discount as well, its all the same fuel just whoever does the bill?0

danny its not that I am against doing something like this its just the fact that i really don't have the funds to make commitments of this kind
to set-up any sort of direct debit you have to be sure your going to have the money in the bank every month and i honestly don't have it every single month I can't give what I haven't got
my outgoing is more than my incoming so its constantly juggling for me
hopefully changing supplier will help as they are a hell of a lot cheaper than Scottish power anyway with no standing charge0 -
im with ebico for gas and electric, i also pay quarterly on receipt of bill.
every monday i take meter readings and work out what ive used for the week, then i put that money away so when the bill arrives i can pay it straight away.whenever i get an estimated reading i phone them with the correct reading, and a new/correct bill is sent in a few days. this way i know my bills are accurate and paid in full for what ive used.
i suggest you do this too - its easy to work out what youve used per week from meter readings with ebico because its all charged at 1 rate.
e.g every unit used on my electric meter costs me 13.14 pence, and every unit used on my metric gas meter costs me 41 pence.
i also use i-measure.0 -
The OP seems to not want to use any of the suggestions of joining the monthly payment plan or putting money aside each month to pay the bill on time quarterly. Unfortunately, if the OP fails to pay within the 14 days allowed, even Ebico (who bill using Scottish and Southern) will send threatening letters and attempt to put them on a pre-payment meter or monthly payment plan.
Other than paying the bill on time, the only other real alternative is to stop using gas altogether; that way you won't get a bill and there's no chance of paying late.43580 -
do you think i will have the same problem?
Yes, possibly, cf Scottish Power. A payment plan is a very reasonable offer. The alternative is a prepayment meter which would likely be more expensive with another supplier and would still require trips to the paypoint or whatever.
If Ebico is your cheapest supplier you need to bite the bullet or pay more elsewhere. At least they are not passing you on to debt collectors or threatening court action which is what some suppliers will do and very quickly.
You have a reasonable offer and if they are your cheapest supplier take it. And make sure your bill has the thumbs up symbol for actual reads and states 'equigas' on the bill. It is not unusual for people to end up on an SSE tariff when switching to Ebico.0 -

they can't send it to a debt collector the bill is paid in full already the only thing was, it is 14 days, late hardly a crime (but you would think so by some of the replys i have here)
they would not get a 3rd party involved unless the account went into arrears mine never has in 10 years..... had my account had been in arrears that would justify a payment plan but thats not the case at all ..regarding court action, it would never happen as am not in arrears
i have been searching about and found loads of people even ones they pay on time have been marked as bad payers and put on a plan by Scottish power0 -
Do you have some sort of learning difficulty? You are repeatedly saying you are deliberately refusing to pay your bills on time. And yet you continue to maintain you are a paragon of reliability. You state yourself you are paying them late - and then barefacedly saying you are not in arrears.
And the fundamental contradiction - even taking your interpretation of not being in arrears - why can't you pay your bill on time, then? It is idiocy to suggest that you have maintained your accounts in good order for ten years but simultaneously maintain you can not afford to pay your bills on time. That is crazy talk.
Why are you refusing to behave decently and pay your bills on time? You are refusing to answer this question. You are not making any sense. You are deliberately costing customers more money by your deliberate misdemeanours.0 -
They should put the guy on a pre-payment meter if this is the way he behaves.43580

I'm sorry, Lee, but I am struggling to understand what you expect from the Utility companies. You've agreed to pay quarterly in arrears and the company's credit terms are that you have to pay within fourteen days of the billing date; something that's standard across the industry. You then seem to be irritated when the companies become (rightfully) a little heavy handed when you fail to stick by your end of the bargain.
We've given you several ideas, all of which need you to take proactive steps to manage your money effectively so that you have the money available within the time given to pay the bill, yet you don't wish to see that it's you not managing your money which is causing the problem, not the utility companies' credit control departments.
Whatever we suggest, you're going to say "no, that won't work for me", so there's little point trying to help you here, and I don't know why you asked the question in the first place. Any company is going to cause a fuss if you don't pay on time.
Unless you take some proactive steps, chances are you'll be pushed by the energy companies onto a pre-payment meter as that way, they know they have the money for the energy you use before you use it.
I'm ducking out of this conversation now I've said my piece, as there's not much more to say.43580
