Sphynx Cat

Speak to breeders and the breed club. They are as others said quite high maitenance. There skin needs to be oiled frequently. You will if the breeder thinks you are suitable to have one of their cats have to go on a waiting list as Sphynx's are in high demand in comparison to numbers available
A sphynx kitten will normally be in the £800-£1000 mark any cheaper and it would ring alarm bells to me about the breeder. Be prepared to travel a long way for a good breeder. They are very friendly playful cats and as others have said they need grooming and washing frequently
They have even been known to swim

AAWWW, look at his little cute face 3rd picture from the bottom. Love these cats also, then again we love Boston Terrier and Pugs, maybe its us that's the weird one :whistle:0 -
Thank you all so much for all the useful advice, it's been of great help!
On reflection, perhaps we are not quite ready for a Sphynx given all that we have read so far.
We would love to have a cat, can you please recommend a breed that likes to stay in (a flat with small outside space) and is not so "high maintenance"?0 -
Do you particularly want a pedigree cat or would you consider a rescue moggie? There are many cats suited to an indoor life - pensioners, FIV, FeLV, deaf, partially sighted .... my little monkey had pododermatitis when he was found as a stray, vet advised he should not go out. He is actually 100% healthy and not in the slightest bit bothered about going further than the front door of my flat!
If you are willing to consider a rescue, check out Purrsinourhearts and CatChat forums where all the rescue mogs hang out.Guaranteed to find a story to tug at your heart - this is my Noah at the bottom of the page:

Wouldn't a 'normal' moggy do? Or are you wanting a specific breed or something? We have a family member who has a 'normal' black cat who lives in there flat and has never been outI think she's about 10 or 11 now
I've got 3 moggies, two love the outdoors ones a real hunterAnd I think our old boy would never go out if he had the option... The sofa arm rest is his fave spot, you have to physically remove him from it sometimes!! lol :T

Awwww, just read the thread about noah in purrsinourhearts ... how/why was he in such a state, presumably the pododermatitis was left untreated by previous owner??? He is stunning!!!
And as for the lynx cats, they are kinda appealing in an ugly, weird, sort of cure kind of way. Would agree with others on here that many rescue cats are well suited to being indoor cats. Our local cat sanctuary has elderly cats who have been there for 8+ years and they say they wouldnt cope with living outside again. I wish I could take one in but our little furry would not like to be trapped inside and she is doing just fine by herself so wouldnt want to distub the peace.0 -

From another thread when he was first rescued:
"He was a stray on an estate in Bramley, and had been around for a number of months. His health had deteriorated over time, as his condition developed. He was an un-neutered male, who had obviously been unloved for some time. Noah had developed a condition which made the pads on his front paws swell and explode, therefore exposing raw flesh and leaking with blood and infection. Noah must have been in severe pain, as he carried on his life as a stray, frightened by people and being chased from pillar to post. He had continued with attempts to groom himself and had covered his once white fur in blood and fluids.
Noah finally settled in a ladys bin cuboard, and began to be fed regularly by the lady, who phoned us, after being unable to access help from an animal charity ( The *****, but we had better not print that incase we get into trouble!) After catching him, he was seen by the vet, and he has turned out to be a friendly chap, and is receiving treatment and lots of TLC. Noah has now been neutered, and after an initial bath is looking much better!"

He is a beautiful boyand sooooo loving and playful. It breaks my heart to think of him as a stray as he is such a homebody! He was rescued 12th February 2009, if you remember it snowed on the 1st February and it lasted about two weeks?
But didn't Cats Protection and the vets do a fantastic job? Now it's my turn to spoil him rotten for the rest of his days!
