Sorry, thanked you instead of quoting!!
I live close to that Brewers Fayre and have been a few times (always with a nectar voucher) with no problems at all.
Have now been twice since its refurbishment in June and will never be back as it is just more hassle than its worth.
Luckily no problems like yourself but for example was there on Thursday and ordered a chicken baquette. First of all the wrong order had been put through when I thought this was sorted then a BLT baguette arrives. How blooming hard is it to get it right!
Also they changed their menu last week and no longer have the daytime snack option where my mum likes the fish and chips as its a smaller portion. When we were paying she mentioned this and was bluntly told "well you will just have to get used to it"!. I also mentioned the baguette saga was told "yeah the menu changed on Tuesday it takes a bit of getting used to the changed". She wasn't even listening to me....I wasn't moaning about the menu but the fact they brought the wrong order.
Anyway rant over. Keep us updated with their response from the manager0 -
I've been a veggie for 33 years, but i nearly puked yesterday when i opened my chinese takeway and found chicken and beef in it.my daughter had picked me a veg bo bo (supposedly) up on the way back from work.i was that annoyed i rang and they delivered me a veggie one free.it was so funny cos the guy didnt wan't the original meal back so i told him it wasnt even fit to give to my dog.:rotfl: :rotfl:"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

I have found pieces of meat in various veggie meals over the years only little pieces but its where they pretend to serve it appart, cook it apart and they dont. I know some places still use the same chopping boards etc. Makes me ill. I go to the same places now to avoid it.
We have a good chinese near us who does 65 dishes for I think £15.00 and you get veggie equivalents even veggie crispy duck - and I hope I dont get berated for eating "fake" meat xAll my views are just that and do not constitute legal advice in any way, shape or form.£2.00 savers club - £20.00 saved and banked (got a £2.00 pig and not counted the rest)Joined Store Cupboard Challenge]0 -
This veggie says there's nothing wrong with eating fake meat . . . I can't imagine why anyone would berate you for it!0

Me too. Its yuk isn't it?
The thing is that I look for it. Or so I'm told by my husband - he says I'd be able to find a needle in a haystack after the 19 years I've spent searching for meat in my meals
Once its happened to you though you become paranoid - well, I do
Chicken in a mushroom fried rice, chicken in a veg cury, mince in a veggie chilli, even a hamburger in a veggie burger wrapper (my veggie burger was in my daughters hamburger wrapper - my husband convinced me it was soya and I took a bite - yuk! ).
I dont eat fake meat - but only 'cos I dont like it. Its all down to personal choiceSometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -
Here in the wilds of southern Spain it is actually quite difficult to get a veggie meal from the smaller places. It is not in the Alpujarreno psyche....why would anyone not want to eat meat?
A colleague from where I used to work used to come to this area for his annual holiday and every time he ordered a veggie meal they just thought he meant he didn't want pork or sausage and he had to specify that 'vegetarian' meant no chicken, no fish and no ham. For some reason, these don't seem to class these as meat!
As an aside, my mum was a vegetarian for about 90 years!!! (I'm not though).(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Cat72,have you heard anymore from Brewers Fayre?
Whilst on the topic of horror stories about takeaways/eating out, we used to live near a chinese takeaway that was situated near a stretch of the River Itchen. We would regularly order meals containing duck without a second thought, so imagine our horror when reading in the local rag that the grandma of the family that ran it had been fined for killing ducks from the river....................
It's enough to turn you veggie. I used to take bread down to the river so my kids could feed the duckies.........Ellie

Chefs? In a Brewers Fayre? :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
These are just fast food restaurants where the dishes are pretty much chill-freeze packages. They only have to bung them in a microwave. Just about the only bit of food preparation they have to do is to put the lettuce/tomato garnish on the plate.
If you're vegetarian, you might be lucky to end up with no meat on your plate, but do you really trust them to serve you something completely uncontaminated with meat? What about the serving utensils? The preparation surfaces? What do you imagine is going on in the kitchen when your veggie meal is being prepared alongside 50 meat dishes?
None of this is an excuse for careless preparation/serving - although mistakes do happen. More so in a fast food restaurant simply due to the sheer volume of food being shoved through as quickly as possible. It's carelessness though - and probably some ignorance. I doubt the meat was deliberately served up. Not a pleasant experience if you are vegetarian, though.
Seriously, you should really consider what you're getting in these places. They're all about making money and don't give a stuff about the quality of the food, despite what they claim.
I might go there for a laugh ..... I want to know the breed of cattle my beef comes from; where and how it was raised; when and where it was slaughtered and how long the meat was hung for. I reckon I could have the manager on the phone to HQ for a good hour answering my questions. And if I don't like the answers, I'll be walking out without ordering :rotfl:Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0
