It was round behind McDonalds(!) The entrance was off the side road by what used to be The Old Rep and near to Yates.

A really nice cafe/restaurant with really good food. I remember the manager also being rather cute!

    Sorry I don't remember it.
Pity as I'm always happy to ogle a good looking man;)

This post reminded me of somthing that happened to my friend about 7 years ago, I think we must have been around 15. She ordered a vegetarian pizza at Pizza Hut. Anyway, her pizza arrives, she begins to eat it only to discover that there a lumps of ground meat hidden UNDERNEATH THE CHEESE. I thought it was hilarious (I was a cruel teenager) but we complained, she got an apology, a brand new pizza (the vegetarian one she originally ordered) and I got to eat her meat pizza. We weren't charged for the original or the replacement, and they gave us free desserts as well. What a result!

    thanks for the warning

I dont eat in pubs due to the smoke and the veggie selections are usually poor.

The one point I would like to make is that if you lose your rag with the staff - dont bother to eat there as thefood is then usually tampered with, as my friends in the industry tell me.

Have you seen the film Waiting?

I can totally symathise with this one, we stopped going to the Brewers Fayre in Edinburgh due to terrible service. I have been a veggie for 24 years and once bought a fresh veggie pizza from Asda only to get home and find chicken in it. Phoned them and went crazy and they refunded my whole shopping (£95.00) and sent a messenger with the cash and to collect the pizza.

Quite agree. Really looking forward to next summer when smoking is to be outlawed in pubs & restaurants,
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

In scotland smoking is now banned and I have to admit we have eaten out a lot more with the kids in the past couple of months than we ever did.Kids have asthma so we were always careful and would never go anywhere where there was likely to be smokers!!
I have never met a calorie yet I didn't like!!

Hi Cat72 - I'm also veggie, and like you if I 'accidentally' eat meat, it either gives me the runs or I get violently sick (My GP told me that after many years - 20+ of not eating meat, your body builds up an immunity to eating meat and will then 'reject' it, in the same way as a transplant - sounded plausible to me!?!). I agree, it really is very very careless, and all chefs of any standing should understand this (as with the nuts story above - OMG!), if you haven't already written your letter, as well as asking for your meal to be refunded, you might want to ask for reassurance that they send a reminder to all their restaurants to re-emphasise that vegetarian means not eating meat! Well done you for taking them on!

P.S. I'm also in Scotland, and wow - isn't eating out non-smoky style fab (so says an ex-smoker!)

I got a letter on friday from the Brewers fayre-
" Firstly I am sorry for the shortfalls that occured at the Newhouse Hotel. From the comments, I can fully appreciate how annoying and disapointing these were at the time.
As a result I have passed over to the Operations Manager for this establishment. I know that your comments will be investigated and once this has concluded the Operations manager will be in touch with you again.
Once again thank you for contacting us and you will hear from us in the near future " .

So the saga continues. You go for a quite bite to eat and next thing its emails , letters, upset.....
I too am horrified at the other OP's comments on the nut story. Like you ceebeeby I too get runs, ill etc with food ( as I too think my body has developed an allergy to it ) but the runs is nothing compared with a life threatnening situation like nut intolerance.
Its strange how in a restauarant you are seen as being " fussy" when the true case is you might have a genuine medical condition that means its vital that you dont have nuts, fish, cheese etc.
I will keep you updated. And yes no smoking in scotish restuarants/ pubs is great :D

These are both appropriate responses to the discovery of such an error.
